Plantar Fasciitis

I have Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot and its painful all the time. I have custom orthotics in my shoes and wear orthotic sandals all the time, even around the house. I am a server/bartender so it flares up after/during each shift. I have night splints and arch support things that I've tried but they don't seem to help either. Plus my doctor says even walking will continue to irritate it so I guess they only exercise I can do is the elliptical. Anyone found anything that will help it go away?

I'm a nurse and I worked 2- 16 hour shifts on the weekend . And when mine flared up it killed me . What I used to do is wrap my foot with a ace bandage and about 3 days and it would be relieved .

I had it too and still have the custom orthotics. Losing 44 lbs has done wonders. I used to hold the railing going down the stairs as I gently walked down them in the morning when I got up. I have had NO pain whatsoever in the past few weeks. It really has been a God send!

Suffered for a long time with Plantar Fasciitis. I bought every shoe and orthotic recommended. Had massage and acupunture done. Still continued to suffer. As a nurse I am on my feet 24-7 and the pain was unbearable. A fellow colleague (72yr old nurse) told me I needed to get myself a pair of birkenstocks. Well let me tell you they really work. Not a bout of Plantar Fasciitis in years. Try them they may help you.

I had it too stretching calf muscle down into foot was what my physical therapy person had me do.you can use a frozen soda bottle or tennis ball and press down as you roll it back and forth it will hurt at first but then will feel better do it as often as possible good luck

I feel your pain. About 15 yrs ago, when I was in Army basic training, I was diagnosed with plantar fascitis. I had a steroid injections and pt. Never improved. When I was stationed in Germany, they did an MRI and found that I had a lipoma (mass) instead. It was never plantar fascitis. Had it removed and 8 weeks off work. It came back (about 50% of them do), but since injuring my back, it took a back-burner to my pain level!

Have you done steroid injections yet?

There is a therapy called Active Release Therapy (ART), I had mine done by a chiropractor and it is all about loosening the tendons and muscles around the affected area with pressure. I don't have PF, but do have an achilles that flares up about every 18 months and this treatment does wonders. You might have to do some research to see if it helps PF but it doesn't hurt to look into.

The suggestion about rolling your foot over a frozen water bottle is great and it really works to relieve pain. Visit with a physical therapist. They can not only prescribe stretches to help keep the fascia from getting too tight along the sole of the foot (which is what's causing the inflammation and thus the pain) but they can also do some treatments to help push out the inflammation far faster than you could do on your own. Several treatments and you will be a thousand times better.

My dr gave me cortisone shots and sent me to physical therapy plus I had to have shoe inserts made. Although I don't use the inserts anymore I think they help. The cortisone shot worked wonders! I suffered with the pain for several years before I broke down and went to a dr about it and he told me I had plantar fascitis, heal spurs, brucitis, and achillis tendinitis. I think getting the weight off has helped alot but my big problem is flip flops. That's all I like to wear and my dr said they were not good for your feet.

I am a teacher and I am also on my feet all day. Just recently went to the doctor for treatment for this. She recommend ice at night, sleep in a pair of leather keds, and buy a pair on Dansko shoes; this has helped some but I still have an occassional flair up. My tennis shoes are Saucony (sp?) and they allow me to run or walk on the tread mill. good luck

The only thing that helps me is injections. Have you tried them yet? If not they have this new light shock therapy that is supposed to work when everything else doesnt

And I used a frozen can of Tomato sauce under the arch area and it helped relieve my plantar problems. I also saw a chriopractor (who specializes in sports medicine) and she did wonders for instant relief. Since I've lost over 50 pounds the discomfort hasn't been an issue.
