All Of Sudden. ...sliming???

Recommended Posts

Been banded since July 2, had my second fill last week (that makes 2cc in a 14cc band)... Here we go, ever since last fill (last week). After the first second or third bite I get a building lump in my throat. Here comes the tmi, ...after a burp (or mild assistance up comes a significant amour of plain gup not the food??? Help

Try eating slower, smaller bites, chew to mush. You could be eating to fast and to much at once. Best wishes :)

If I had to guess, I'd guess it's one of two things- either you're not taking small enough bites and eating too fast or you're having "first bite syndrome".

Many banded patients will get a felling of too full, even slime and feel stuck, after just a couple bites of food. We call it first bite syndrome because you know you're not done eating, and you're not too tight, yet those first couple bites always feel otherwise. If it is first bite syndrome, it usually passes entirely within a couple minutes then you can continue your meal as normal.

Good luck!

hey! happy bandiversary! i was banded july 2 too...

yea you are probably eating too fast and taking too big of bites. when i started getting my fills, i kept forgetting and taking 'normal' bites... like the size i USED to take before the band and eating just as fast. i had to have my husband remind me every time we eat to slow down and take small bites. its a learning process! i still do it sometimes and the same thing happens... it feels stuck and i burp... and its slime (gross!)... i think that slime is your body's reaction to trying to help it down. not fun. so yea... just try to conciously slow down and take small bites... like i tell myself, that food aint going anywhere... i can slow down to eat it! LOL

I get this too. For me it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the size of the bite. It's just that first bite does...not...want...to...go...down! I know it's not the size of the bite because I've specifically tested it by making my first bite Soup or mashed potatoes or a "slider" food. To me it seems like there is a lot of gas/air in my stomach/body that tries to come up as I try to get food down. The gas/air always wins and pushes up the teeny tiny bit of food I tried to eat and a bunch of slime. Once that comes up/out, I can eat. That whole process can take between 10 minutes to 45 minutes, on average. I don't understand how this can be good for me but I feel better knowing it happens to other people.
