For the last 3 days I have been getting this excruciating pain in my neck and shoulder. I have now figured out that it's associated with eating. I thought maybe I was eating solids too soon so I switched to a smoothie and 1 min in I could barely stand the pain? Does anyone know if this is temporary or something I just have to deal with? It hurt so bad I cried and I can handle pain... I have to work today so I am so scared to even eat anything.

I'm experiencing the same thing, but I'm 3 days pot-op....but my MD told me that it's gas pain and unfortunately for some people it can last up to 2wks or so after surgery....just keep massaging the area, applying the heating pad and walking, that helps a bit. Good luck!!!

i had that also (but it gradually goes away) it took mine til day 9

you seem to be recently banded (and seems you are eating (food already). that may have something to do with this pain also, i dont know. but if it hurts, take some meds, and unless the dr says its okay to eat food, id stick with the liquids until you are able to have your insides healing up nicely. remember, sip sip sip. (you are still swollen and will be for a couple more weeks).

if in doubt, please refer to your doctor. i do so hope you feel better.

It does sound like gas. I had it bad post op. Try gas ex strips if the shakes give you gas try beano- those got me through. I understand the pain, I thought I would die - it took my breath away.

Thank you thank you thank you! This helps me feel so much better and actually I was doing really good with liquids and the I went out of town and with lack of planning I messed up a little but I'm back home now and back to liquids ! I really appreciate your replies at least I know now that it's normal and does go away!

It's referred pain from gas being trapped in the diaphragm area. I found that walking helped a lot and also laying flat on my back for about ten minutes and deep breathing then getting up and walking again. It should settle in a week or two or hopefully quicker.
