Need help with the LBT acronyms

Recommended Posts

I'm sort of new to this site (banded 02/27/06) and am having a hard time deciphering all the acronyms and abbreviations used here. Can anyone point me to a list of definitions or help me figure them out? :D

For example:

NSV

PB

DH

ILs

DD

There are others I'm sure, but these are the ones I see most often. Thanks so much!

Hey Vicki,

I'm fairly new here but I can help on a few.

NSV=non scale victory i.e. when an old pair of jeans fits better, when you can see ur toes...that kind of stuff where you know u have lost some weight but it's not necessarily weight off the scale.

PB=productive burp....you can do a search for this and find lots of threads that explain what it is, but basically its when food gets stuff and you burp it back up or push it back down. (I think)

DH=dear husband, or DS dear son, or DD dear daughter...you get the picture.

and the Ils im not sure about.......

Heyas Ms. Vicki :D

NSV is non-scale victory. Benefits of weight loss other than reading the numbers on the darn scale.< /p>

PB is productive burp. Nice words for a very unpleasant event which occurs when we don't chew well, eat slowly, or choose wisely. The food gets stuck and has to come back up. Not a pretty sight.

DH is darling husband.

ILs is in-law's.

DD is darling daughter, DS darling son, etc.

There are many more of these types of abbreviations in the thread that StrawartS has references in her post above. Click on that link and you'll be taken to that thread.

*laughs* K@t you beat me to it. :) Hi K@t! *waves cheerfully*

ILs

I didn't see the answer to this one in that thread.... I'm curious also. I'm not crazy about acronyms or abbreviations myself. My husband isn't always 'darling' so I doubt I'd use that one... and since I haven't had a PB yet but just some nasty hiccups I'm not sure I completely get the defination. Isn't it kind of like a puck! Is it because people don't like that word?

Opps! Edited this since P'nut answered the IL question... I was wondering about that one like crazy since I read someone else said MIL (I guess that was Mother-In-Law?)

3. Productive Burp? How about Excrutiatingly Painful Gagging Sliming Heaving Feels Like You're About to Die Vomitation? (EPGSHFLYADV) Seriously, the acronym is EXCEPTIONALLY deceiving. I had no idea what I was in for.

Hahahaa! that was a very entertaining thread... not because I'm glad you went though it, it's just that your wording was so delightful. I can't beleive I missed that thread before.

Ok - I've decided I don't want that PB thing for sure! The hiccups are bad enough they get really loud and uncontrollable and "people look at me"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
