I'm getting banded on the 17th of October which is just over 2 weeks away and the nerves are finally setting in, I feel like i'm not prepared!

I know it's just nerves talking but is there anything I should be doing in particular in the next 2 weeks (aside from the optifast)

any information is appreciated!!

Thanks :)

Everyone experiences different things after being banded.....but get as much gas relieving meds as you can....garlic tea...mom...gas-x, just in case one does not work....cause I have no pain other then the gas pain....it's horrible....I have never been so happy in my life about being able to fart!!!

get a hot pad for your shoulders and gas x strips for the gas and walk it off literally the walking helps move the gas used in the OR up and out of the shoulders, i know it's going to smart but you will feel better if you get up and walk every hour or so, not far just move to move the gas up and out.

I keep hearing the same advice about the Gas X strips. I dont see how they get gas from your abdominal cavity into your colon so you can fart it out. That seems like two separate compartments.

I walked to move gas, used heating pad and iced my stomach. I used gas x when gall bladder was removed and it did nothing for me.They gave me liquid vicodin for pain and I took it every four hours and slept a lot lol.Fyi if you get that pain med it tastes disgusting but it helped.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
