BLAH 9 Posted September 30, 2012 I just finished everything on my checklist & now I have a date which is October 8th to see the surgeon for the second consultation to let me know the surgery date I would love to know what things I should purchase that I would need after surgery? wallflower 188 Posted September 30, 2012 Yay! See, you're gettin there Before my surgery I stocked up on Gatorade G2 low calorie, broth, sugar free Popsicles, and ur Protein shakes of course. Would also recommend gas-ex if your doc is ok with that 1 Maddysgram reacted to this
wildrose1966 396 Posted September 30, 2012 Congratulations. I would suggest must haves....gasx, heating pad, stool softener. If you can find Protein powder/drinks that you like before hand that is great too. Everything else is easy, broth, Soup, yogurt, pudding, drinks.............you will not be eating alot the first 3-4 days, just alot of sipping. 3 TriciaLN, Maddysgram and Michael S. BLAH 9 Posted September 30, 2012 Thank you everyone for answering my question I really appreciate it I'm getting my list together to make sure I get everything done before the surgery & I don't miss or forget anything!
wildrose1966 396 Posted September 30, 2012 Don't overthink it, I probably wasted about $100 on stuff I couldn't eat/drink. I bought 3 boxes of gasx - I have 2 left over, I bought 8 clear ensure Protein drinks, threw them all out they were terrible. Bought a package of 4 carnation instant bfast - again good Protein, couldn't stomach it, threw them out. Gatorade revive high Protein Drink, threw it out. 2 tubs of Protein powder - gave them away, bought a 6 pack of high protein chocolate pudding from GNC, thank god I could return that. I really needed to dumb everything down and go back to basics............1c of milk is as good as an ensure drink and same protein.........drink milk. I added blenderized cottage cheese to soup..........no difference in taste, boost protein...........etc etc. A box of broth and package of Jello and some freezies will probably pull you through your first 3 days. TriciaLN 177 Posted October 1, 2012 I used a heating pad after surgery. It really helped with the gas and it just felt good!!
kyrasgrandma 228 Posted October 1, 2012 good tips! I need to start thinking about post surgery as well.
PattyGirl66 1,243 Posted October 1, 2012 Also, remember if you decide to use a heating pad do NOT put it on your belly! Oh, gatorade G2 is a must!
Sojourner 2,446 Posted October 1, 2012 To add to the list of prior posts: Be certain to have all of the prescriptions from your surgeon filled and at home prior to your surgery date. The last thing I would have wanted to do newly post op would be to stop at the pharmacy. Also a "must have" for the hospital is a Chapstick for dried lips...it was the only item I brought to the hospital with me, and I used it several times...and very thankful that I had it! Best wishes as you begin your journey...
TriciaLN 177 Posted October 1, 2012 Also' date=' remember if you decide to use a heating pad do NOT put it on your belly! Oh, gatorade G2 is a must![/quote'] Why is that? I was told I could use it to help with the gas and I did. It helped tremendously. I had no issues with having used it at all. I placed it over my clothes while laying in bed.
