Surgeon Recommendation In Las Vegas?

Recommended Posts

I had Dr. Atkinson do my surgery. I was nearly 550lbs and had my surgery in April. Now I'm 480lbs. It went very well. I've only seen him twice; once on surgery day, and then one of my fills. He's nice, but don't expect to see him very often. You'll deal with his staff (who I feel are very nice.) more often than not. My fills have been with Brian, one of Atkinson's medical staff.

They also have a free nutrition class once a month and a free yoga class which are taught by the same lady who is a ten year bandster.

Thank you Johnnycantrock! I've heard the same about Dr. Atkinson. I have a consult with his partner Dr. Soong in a few weeks after my psych eval........I'm getting nervous! Haven't met Brian yet, I hear nothing but good things about him. Do you know if Dr. Atkinson does the plication with the Lapband? Your weight loss is amazing!

Thank you!

I had my surgery with Dr. Atkinson in 12/20/2008. I have lost 88 pounds and am at goal, I think! I am stuck at this weight being in a size 10-12 and my body will not go down any farther. I am happy, off all meds. I never had any fills and know of a few other people banded by Dr. Atkinson that have had the same excellent results. I have not been back in over 2 1/2 years since our surgery will not cover Nevada doctors anymore, but I have had no problems so far. They were all really great and I made the decision to not get filled and do this my way. They would have been more than willing to do the fill/unfill thing but I wanted to just live with the band the way it was. I do not know if they do the plication, but they are excellent surgeons and I honestly do not know of anybody that has had any major problems from that office. I was highly recommended by 3 other people here in town to go to that office and I never regretted the decision for one minute. Feel comfortable in putting yourself in their hands, they are very skilled and supportive of their patients in every aspect. Brian is very friendly and helpful and no questions were stupid or unimportant. They were all wonderful and made me feel very comfortable in my decision with them and the surgery. Good luck and happy surgery.

Idk about plications (don't know what that means.) I have high blood pressure and hypothyroid. When they got inside to put the band on, they saw I had a hiatal hernia and fixed that up while they were in there. :) I feel great!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
