16 Hour Work Shift/ Calories

Recommended Posts

Today is my first 16 hour shift since being banded. I came to work at 10:30 pm last night and work until 3:10 this afternoon. It's only 1:00pm and u only have 200 calories left for the day because I had to eat when I normally would have been sleeping. Anyone have any experience with this situation?

Not yet but I will be soon. I'm a nurse too and I swear its damn near impossible to get my breaks. I haven't been back to work yet but I'm nervous about how I'm gonna get my food/fluids in.

OT- Just wanted the nurses to know I appreciate your hard work and dedication. Almost every nurse I know doesn't get the adequate breaks to even go to the bathroom.

I once had to answer phone in NICU, b/c nurse had 6 babies to take care of while others were either on break or taking a baby for test.

My granddaughter is in the hospital a lot, just had surgery today, and you nurses are not only wonderful to patient, but the family too.

Well done!!!! Wish I could help you with eating problems!

I am a nurse, banded July 23. I returned to work Sept 5, I work at a hospital on a busy & understaffed med-surg unit for geriatrics. I had the same concerns with my getting in my food/fluids. My dietician advised me to have either a Protein Shake or a Glucerna Hunger Smart Bar for lunch on those days I don't have time to take a lunch break. I usually end up eating one of those bars(they are really yummy & you can find them at alot of places CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, etc). I also keep a drink right at my computer so I can drink while I am charting. Good luck to you!!! :)

I just got one of those mixer cups that has a metal mixer ball. Told they work great for mixing shakes. Bought it at Walmart.< /p>

Also sometimes I just munch on some low fat cheese and it keeps me full.

You will be fine, just remember to drink fluids. I know it sounds weird but i don't get thirsty. I have had my lapband since February 2010 and love it! It's. Still a struggle keeping the weight off but i lost 100lbs and doing good. I was worried also due to i travel a lot but it worked out good.

Nice! I can't wait to say I lost 100 pounds!

Funny, I also don't really get thirsty a lot anymore. Weird for me since I'm diabetic but probably cuz my sugars have been so much better. I do try to remind myself to drink by carrying around my stupid Gatorade bottle & so far it's working.

I picked up a few of those mixer cups. They work great for on the go! Now, if I just had a maid to clean them! :-)

If you work on the floor.....you are like me. I work on a busy tele unit. Thanks to osha I cannot have Water or food near my med cart that functions as my desk. We cannot have food or Fluid a the desk either. I work 12 hour shifts. So I worried too after being banded last month. My strategey....Get the Protein in early with a shake (powder/banana/ice in blender) I drink on the way to work. That way if it is too busy for am break I am not left high and dry! I take lunch as early as I can (usually the 1200 slot) that way when it calms down about 2pm I can sneak away for the other half of lunch or a Protein Drink.

I hope this was helpful. 12 hour shifts are hard when you cannot have food near you. But then again I guess it is a mixrd blessing----what I do not see I cannot eat or crave lol

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
