Slow Leakage? Is This Normal???

just had my first fill yesterday and I overheard my Dr talking of air bubbles with the resident. Guess it is common after placement

When I got my first fill the nurse told me not to be surprised if I lose some of the saline. She said it is common. If you have to pay for your fills ask for Omnipak (sp?). It is thicker and you are less likely to lose it like you do saline.

Yes it is normal. I lost saline after my first and second fill. On the third fill they used the "sticky" stuff. Not sure what it actually is but it isnt suppose to evaporate out of the band. Hopefully someone else will be able to give you more information about it.

pammycakes, that is EXACTLY what happened to me down to the exact detail. first and second fill i lost some saline, 3rd fill they used the iodine stuff or sticky stuff that has some iodine in it....i THINK it has iodine in it at least....which would explain why she kept asking to make sure i am not allergic to iodine! lol.

anyhow, i felt alot more restriction, but now that it is close to time for my 4th feel, i am feeling less and less restriction!!! i REALLY hope that i don't have a leak of some sort that even the sticky stuff isn't working...i am self pay as well...but even if i weren't self pay, i wouldn't want to have any more surgery to have to correct anything....

i'm wondering though, FOR ALL THE SELF PAYERS out there....if there is a complication, wouldn't the insurance company step in with that part? afterall, now that the lapband is in there and practically a "part" of us, if there is a complication would they cover it? bc if not, and we can't afford it, then it could cause health problems???? i would think that way, but if anyone knows, please let me know. just more out of curiousity then anything. thanks!

I would like to know the same thing about the insurance. I'm 2 years post-op and I'm leaking from my last un-fill. I went yesterday to get a fill and I was empty...I should of had 2.6cc and I didn't have anything. So they used the "thicker stuff". I just don't understand!

Some insurance companies will pay if it's a medical problem.

I went in for acid reflux and they put something about the band in the coding to the insurance company and they would not pay for the visit. I called my dr. and said that it needed to be billed as acid reflux. They rebilled it and the insurance paid.

As far as restriction goes, you lose restriction as you lose fat around your stomach. The fat pad melts and the band around it is looser. It's just like a belt on your waist. When you lose the weight, your belt is looser.

Restriction feels like you can't eat another bite and if you do, you will throw up. It's not painful. It's painful when you don't chew enough and the food gets stuck in your esophagus and won't go down through the band.
