Feel Full With 8 Ounce Shake?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Monday, and I'm carefully following my doctor's guideline. I can have an 8oz shake, but i must drink slowly. I'm on my third day of shakes. I just had my shake, and used a timer to make sure I spaced my sips at lead a minute apart, as usual. (Yeah, I'm a bit obsessive!) but right now I feel overfill.

Is this possible with a shake? One thing's for sure-next time I'm going down to 4 or 5 oz. weird question- this one instance won't stretch my pouch, will it?

Yes, I know I'm being nutty. :o I just really want to do this right!

yes of course, i was the exact same. (heck i am that way also now sometimes especially in the mornings). you are still swollen inside from surgery and so it is hard to get down huh ....it will get better. just keep on sipping and getting that much needed Protein in as that is your fuel.

you rest and take care of yourself :)

I was banded Monday too!! My doc has me sipping 2 oz of Protein Shake for 15 minutes every hour followed by 2 oz Fluid every 15 minutes. I can tell today when it is about time for another 'shot' of Protein. I'm drinking out of shot glasses which is funny for me since I've never been a big drinker. Anyway, after an hour I feel a little hungry, drink my 2 ozs and then I'm fine. I seem to be able to drink a little more than the 2 oz of fluid but this morning I gulped without thinking about it and WOW did that hurt!!

Corgimom, how do you have time to do anything but eat and drink? I finally left my house today and ran a few errands. (My husband drove me, since I'm not allowed to drive until Monday.) Going to Bed Bath and Beyond this morning felt like a vacation!

How long do you have to follow that schedule?

When I have left the house I take Protein and Water with me. I took a smaller bottle of ensure and a small bottle of water. I have left the house twice since surgery and for no longer than 3 hours and it's worked pretty well. But yes, I feel like I am doing nothing but drinking all day. I meet with the nutrionist this coming Friday and hopefully this will change a little but 3 weeks is the max I have to do this. I normally have water with me anyway, so that part is not so hard, but yes, it is a pain in the butt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
