Hello all,

Brand new to this forum and site.

I just found out that I am having my surgery on Oct 18th. I think the thing that scares me the most is the pre-op diet. My diet will consist of 4 shakes a day and one cup of veggies. Yikes! I am sooooo ready for this new beginning of my life. My weight has been a big hurdle in my life. (as most if not all of us have had)

I have enjoyed what I read so far. I think this will be a good site for me and hopefully be able to give advice to people going through it later on or getting advice from people who have already.

Looking forward to getting to get info from all of you!

Find some really good shakes you like. Can you mix them with milk? The extra calories in milk really help me. You can do it, best wishes! :)

I have to mix them with milk, so hopefully it will make me full. I think the full caloric intake is about 900 calories. I am scared out of my mind and am starting to worry about the whole process. I know I am ready for a new beginning and working at it, just need the tools to do it and support of course.

thanks for the wishes.

Hi DeeVee, I start my pre op diet on the 8th and I get banded on the 22nd. I was afraid of the pre op diet too but I thought it's for a good cause and only temporary. Heck I have done far worse things to my body all for the glory of a smaller number on the scale. You can get through it Dee. We are here for you.

Hello! My name is michele. After jumping through a lot of hoops I finally have a date. My lap band surgery is scheduled for October 5. Started my pre-op diet last weekend. Omg was it ever hard the first few days. I lost 8 lbs this week though.

Inviting you to come take a look at My Fitness Pal. I didn't know about it when I was in your place. I use LBT and MFP equally for information, and sharing. Just seeing the various food diaries is inspiring.

Just got my band this past Saturday (13th October 2012) and thus far I'm doing fine. Already back at work. In response to the question about pre-op diet, I would say stick to it like glue. It really sucks for the first few days and the last few days before surgery, but I lost weight going into it and it made me so excited that my nerves about the surgery went away. I know its a long road ahead, but I am so excited about losing the weight for good and starting my real life!

i had my surgery on october 3, i had only a couple days of pain. i had to go home with O2 for 4 days due to the doctor finding a hernia and adding co2 so it was a little painful to breathe in deeply. it felt like i had air bubbles in my chest. it is important to walk as soon as you can and use the incentive spirometer as ordered by the doctor. give your stomache time to heal. do not push to eat regular foods real fast. i did Clear Liquids for 4 days. i am currently progressing to a soft diet. i had one scrambled egg and a 1/4 cup cottage cheese and i was full. this is exciting for you and i hope all goes well for you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
