Dealing With A Sweet Tooth

Recommended Posts

I am 3 months post op and have lost 34 lbs. I have never been much of a sweet eater, I main overate at meals. The only time I have ever craved sweets is around my monthly. After surgery things tasted to sweet and turned me off, but now the cravings have returned. It's that time of the month and I want something sweet and decadent so bad. I use to cave and go get a red velvet cupcake or a piece of cheesecake, but I feel that is totally off limits now. I have managed to refuse the craving for 3 days now, but it is killing me. I even passed up a piece of cake yesterday at work because I know I shouldn't eat it.

How do you all deal with cravings? Need a little support and advice.

For me, ignoring those cravings just makes them stronger, especially during PMS week. So, I have something sweet that isn't going to destroy my daily calorie intake. For instance, I love double chocolate sugar free pudding. It's divine. Healthy Choice now makes a frozen Greek yogurt that's really good, too. Skinny Cow makes numerous low calorie treats that are also great to appease a sweet tooth.

Kime nothing is off limits. If you have that craving indulge it BUT have just a small amount if whatever you need to satisfy that craving.

I used to have a wicked sweet tooth but since being banded its pretty much disappeared but I do from time to time get my chocolate cravings. I have just a small piece and I'm happy. Pre banding I would have devoured a whole block of chocolate and then some. Being banded now is about making the healthy food choices and also having a treat from time to time.

Are you never going to have anything chocolate again?? There are no good food bad foods there is just WRONG portions . If once a month you ate a red velvet cupcake the FOOD POLICE will not arrest you. The best day of your life will be the day you can say I'm not hungry right now so I will pass.

Its ok to eat sweets every now and again. Just don't make it a habit and you will be fine. When I want something sweet I count it into my daily calories

I do the same thing. If I want something sweet, I eat it. Just in much smaller portions than before. For example, I keep chocolate covered peanuts and Milano Cookies at home. When I want something sweet, I get 2 peanuts or 1 cookie. It satisfies the craving and I haven't destroyed my day. It is unrealisitc to think you will never eat sweets ever again. My aunt is getting married in October and I fully intend on having some wedding cake. :)

I do the same, I just count it into my daily calories.

Heck, not even an hour ago I was stuffing a pinata for my son's birthday party tomorrow and I had a mini Peanut Butter cup. It was yummy but I feel no guilt, I just worked it into my daily calories.

Try crystal light extra cold. I love that stuff and in a pinch it's the right amount of sweet. For me eating sweets start my cravings and it's hard to get back on track so I try really hard not to go there. Good luck! :)

I'm not big on sweets and overall dislike chocolate, but sometimes you get that craving....

I found that if I don't give in, on a much smaller scale, then I will eat around my craving. Instead of just having a few salty chips, I'll eat five other salty foods to satisfy that "need" instead of just having a couple chips.

When a craving hits, I wait it out. If after an hour, I still can't think of anything but that piece of chocolate, I'll have a *small* piece and just eat it slowly to savor it.

A few healthier alternatives I've found though - and keep in mind, they're "slider" foods and I don't make a habit out of eating them - are frozen greek yogurt or sugar free pudding. Sometimes a girl just needs her ice cream, and the frozen greek yogurt is a great alternative.

Put hersey's kisses or nuggets in the freezer. When the urge hits, eat one. Because it's frozen it takes about 5 minutes for it to dissolve. Satisfies me.

Dark chocolate works well, satisfies the craving and given its quite strong I find it easier to turn away after a square or two.

Sharing a piece of cake out with a friend then going for a walk has also been a great experience. I find if I eat treat food out with other people I feel more accountable.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
