I had a really good fill in December. My problem is now, for about the last month or so, whenever I eat just about anything, I end up "sliming". It can be the first bite of food, solid or soft. I did it yesterday on yogurt! So to me it does not have anything to do with the "chewing" part. It does not happen everytime but probably about 85% of the time. It could be the 1st meal or the last. What do you think this means? Am I filled to much? I do not PB just slime. I have been stuck at the same weight since about January and I think it is because I can not get in enough protien, etc. Some days I have no problem eating a meal. It just is so nerve racking not knowing what will happen. My friend took me out to lunch the other day for helping him with something and I ate about 3 bites and had to excuse myself from the table about 4 times. I just told him the food was to spicey and it was upsetting my stomach but I was getting rid of the slime. It is horrible not knowing what will happen when I put some food in my mouth!! What do you think?

Sounds like first bite syndrome. Here's what I do:

1. Drink HOT tea before first bite.

2. Take first very small bite.

3. Chew till the end of the earth.

4. Wait 1 minute.

5. Drink more HOT tea to wash it down.

6. Repeat 2-5 for next few bites.

7. Put fork down for 30 seconds to 1 minute between ALL subsequent bites.

It's annoying and it takes me about 45 minutes to eat, but it works!

NewLife, If I were you I'd see my doc and have the band checked. No weight loss and trouble swallowing even the softest foods could be an indication of slippage. I stress the words "could be" because I don't want to worry you, but I'm sure you've already wondered this yourself. Rather than being worried and troubled by this, why not go have it checked out. For your own peace of mind. Let us know what you find out, ok? *hugs*

Thanks ladies.

I went to see the doctor today and we ended up doing a slight "deflate" as they put it!! I have to be on soft foods for the next two days, so we shall see. I was at 2.0 cc and now am back to 1.5 cc. I just hope it was not to much that they took out! Hopefully things will be much better.

I did try the hot tea for a few days and it worked sometimes but not all the time. I also could not image having to do that before and during every meal. The nurse told me today that it should not take you that long to eat a meal. It was taking me 45 min. sometimes. She said, "when your family is done, then you should be done."

So I will try these new things out and hopefully things will start moving again since I have been "in the slow losers club"!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
