Just Got Banded-Still Hospitalized

Recommended Posts

Well I just got banded about 3pm yesterday. The procedure took about 3 hours, and I'm still in a fair amount if pain. But it turns out I had a hernia and they had to repair that too, so I'm not quite sure where the pain is coming for.

When I awoke in Recovery is where I felt the most amount of pain. But I think what it was was all the gas that was inside me. It was making me feel like I couldn't breathe, even though i was getting good oxygen. So I "struggled" to take deep breathes of air, and this created more pain with my lesions.

So they provided me medicine for the gas and pain- not sure what they were called because I was out of it- and u feel much better not. It mainly just aches when I roll over to get out of bed, but it does get easier with time.

The more gas I pass- the better as well.

Well tomorrow is my GI test to see if I can leave this place. Hope I can keep it down since all I've had this far was some ice chips.

Keep ya updated ...

Glad they're keeping you comfy with medication. Hoping all goes well with GI.

You'll feel much better once you get home where hopefully it's quiet.

When I had my hysterectomy I didn't sleep for 3 days b/c of noise in the hospital. Came home and passed out for a whole day.lol

Best wishes for a very speedy recovery & an awesome wl journey!

Hospitals are the worst place to be sick - all that noise is not conducive to rest and recovery!

I wish you speedy recovery. I got banded yesterday too, and hernia repair done also. I got home at 1 pm yesterday.

I also woke up in severe pain at the hospital, but walkmg from bathroom to the hospital bed helped. They didn't keep men overnight or did any other GI test.

Still in pain and hurts to sit, get up, laydowm and getting up from laying down hurts a lot. I felt the stomach and incision area to be tight this morning.

As soon as possible, pain or not, start walking around the room or in the hallway. This helps alleviate any gas out of you. I also had a hernia repaired as a in-n-out patient, I walked all night within my home and did take my pain medicines for the 2 days or so. Sip plenty of Water even if oyu feel bloated or full.

Best wishes on your band, On the road to recovery each step you take for better health and quality of life.

The same thing happen to me. I wouldn't let them take me from recovery because i kept gasping for air. They kept telling to i was getting enough oxygen.. (had a mask on) but i couldn't catch my breath. I ended up with a fever.. Be careful

Oh my I couldn't imagine going home yesterday. They took good care of me last night and did all kinds of tests throughout the night. Blood sugar, oxygen, breathing treatments.

I just got my GI test, and there were no leaks in my band. So as soon as the dr reviews it, I should be able to start drinking liquids. Also, I believe I'm going home in a couple hours. I'm much more ready for it today :)

Get all the pampering from them!!!

I was glad to be home..even though the hospital is 5 star place I can't stomach the smell and all the other sick people. They said I was doing so well that I was ready to be discharged.

What's your postop like? How's ur pain today?

I am glad you all are doing fine. What is it that we have these hernias? Is it something with weight?

Yes I googled hiatal hernias and they can be cause by the weight:(

I just got my first meal, and if I can hold it down I can go home. I took one sip

Of the soup- and I already feel"full".

I'm not pushing it though because I do not want to vomit. Think ill just take this one slow...

Thank you for asking. I was also going to ask about the hernias because a few ppl had them repaired. Is this something that they found during the procedure for those of you that had the repair?

They found my hernia during the procedure.

I'm at home now, and in much more pain than the hospital. They gave me liquid Vicodin, but I am having a hard time swallowing the dosage amount because I'm scared I'm

Going to vomit. It hurts to lay down because of the gas- makes me feel like I can't breathe. I can only walk around so much til l get exhausted.

I'm praying this will all pass when the gas leaves...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
