3 Weeks Post Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I don't get banded until monday ( 10/1 ) but I wanted to know of anyone saw a difference in the body about 3 weeks after the surgery. my mom is getting remarried 3 weeks after my surgery and I am a bridesmaid in the wedding. I have already bought the dress for the wedding . I am kind of scared that it won't fit right or that I will have to get alterations done to it because of weight loss .

I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op and i am down a total of 25 lbs and - 4 inches. i went into surgery on the larger side of a size 24. and just yesterday i pulled out my size 20 clothes! they are still a little snug because my stomach is still distended from swelling, i went from a 46D bra to my 42D bras i had in storage. but i must warn you everyone is different. some have lost more than me and some have lost a lot less. just stick to your dr's diet and instructions DON'T CHEAT. And you will do wonderful!

25 pounds that's great! I'll just have to wait and see, hopefully I'll still be able to fit into this dress *fingers crossed

Me personally, I didn't lose but maybe 5 lbs the first 5 mths. After my 4 week liquid diet (which I lost maybe 3 lbs total), I had a free-for-all in the eating dept. I didn't find restriction till 5mths/3rd fill, then I started noticing a difference. Even my totally liquid diet didn't do anything for loss. I was bummed. Thought I had failed yet another diet. Till the magic of my 3rd fill came! Then the pounds started melting off.

You'll probably be on a liquid diet still when it's your moms wedding. Can't say if you'll need alterations, but I'm guessing any lbs you'll lose in the next 3 weeks, won't be too great to affect your dress size. JMHO. Good luck with your surgery!

I am 2 weeks out and my stomach is still pretty puffy and swollen, and you can tell in some clothing. My gas, burping and farting, have pretty much gone but I know I have not lost in the last week, actually gained 2lbs back. I think my body is holding on tight to everything it is getting, thinking I am starving it. Am still on full liquids for another 4 days and then looking forward to mixing it up a bit and starting to eat my Protein, not drink it. I was down 19lbs last monday from the beginning of pre op and 10 of that was from 7 days post surgery, where I virtually ate nothing. I have not noticed a big change as it come to clothing. But not worried........as I am healing right now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
