I was starving after my surgery. My Dr. didnt put a fill in untill 6 weeks later. But when I was able to start eating regular food the hunger was a lot better. But I can remember hoping the hunger would not last. I have had two fills now and I think I might need another one. But the hunger is deffinitly not as bad as in the beginning. Good luck to you.

i am 3 1/2 weeks post op and i remember feeling starving shortly after surgery. My doc put me on a soft diet like 2-3 days after. oatmeal, cream of wheat, pudding, Jello etc. Thank goodness cause I was surely hungry. It does get better! I promise. I am scheduled for my first fill on 4/6 and am very ready for it. Once you start on mushies, just make sure you drink lots of Water. Your old stomach will get used to the hunger... hang on.... you will make it through!

One word: NORMAL!

Sparkling, check out the food Stages thread under the Foods Forum. You should get some good ideas for other foods to eat/drink at this stage post-op. Remember to follow YOUR docs orders for foods, though. If your doc says no mushies at this point, please wait. You need to heal. Don't eat anything that causes your stomach to move alot. Find your calories with liquids and you will feel better. Egg Drop Soup was a big hit with me.

Most docs don't give fills for the first 6 weeks, and as you are doing liquids anyway, you don't need one. A fill will restrict well-chewed foods, and you aren't there yet because you are healing right now. Hang in there. It does get better!!!!

I'm going on my 5th week post-op and have not had any hunger sensations since 2 days pre-op. I keep waiting for it to return... scheduled for a fill on the 7th so maybe it'll just stay gone for good.

I wouldn't worry, and you're not a pain. That's what this place is for. :)

My mom had the lap band done about a month before me. It took her a while to get her hunger back and it is still very little. Me on the other hand. I was starving. She has not needed a fill and I have had two. Just goes to show you everyone is so different. I would love to not have hunger so much. But it is really weird how I can handle it now and not over do it compared to before surgery and I would eat everything. I love my band. It is one of the best things I have ever done.

I've suggested this to a few people and heard that it's really helped with the hunger. I know it sure got me through! Campbell's bean with bacon soup! Blend the Soup and Water together in a blender until it is smooth, then heat. Yummy, thick, warm, rib sticking goodness! :)

Depending on where you were banded, most surgeons do not fill until 6 weeks out. There's a lot of swelling that has to subside before they can tell how much restriction you will need. So, as the swelling does go down, you'll find yourself feeling like you did pre-band. As my doctor put it, "You can eat just like you did before surgery, but that doesn't mean you should!" Like Kathy said, those stitches are still healing and you don't want the stomach to be tugging on them by working to break down more solid foods.

Hang in there, Sparkles, you'll get through this!
