How long was it before you felt like you were able to start going for walks and exercising?

I was in pain after so I took time to heal. I can't remember how long it took but I say take the time to heal and when you feel up to it, go for it! :)

I was up walking up to 45min in the first week. Put on the headphones and just went.........you should be going for little walks many times a day as soon as you come home from the hospital, they really want you moving.....even if it is to the end of the driveway.

good luck!!!

Wow wildrose! i am 7 days post op and Im out of bed all day but still can't power walk 45 minutes

I think I was one of those very very lucky ones.......didn't have an ounce of pain, and had gas for 6hrs on day 8 post op. I was off meds on day 2 and slept the whole night on my side the day of surgery. I only napped post op days 1 and 2 and that was the only time I was in bed. I figured if I was in my own city, I could have gone back to work on day 3. So I do think I am a very rare case of quick and fast recovery, and I am thankful for that. I really did feel great from day 1. Day 7, I drove 7hrs in a car, alone.

Take your time and do what you can......we all heal differently, but you really do need to get moving around. It is easier to walk with someone.....even if it is hunched over and shuffling  (there was no power walking, just getting one foot infront of the other)

I was walking around the house the day after surgery... then on the third day I startred walking around my yard. I didnt venture for a longer walk for a few weeks... as it was 2 weeks before I felt like myself

I walked around the house the day of surgery, to the end of the driveway and back the day after and on day 3 or 4 I went back to work. Haven't stopped since (14 months ago). Listen to your own body. Do what you can. Don't baby yourself. If you don't walk some the gas will be painful but don't push too hard. You will do just fine.. Good luck today.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
