For Those Who Paid For The Lb Thru Insurance...

Recommended Posts

I know that the fills are required, but does your insurance pay for each time you have to have a fill? I have tricare south, so for anyone else who has tricare please feel free to answer. and if insurance doesnt cover the fills, about how much does each fill cost?

My insurance BCBS, covers my fills. I think my share is 68.00. They covered my fist several visits and fills 100 % the first year afte my surgery. Not sure if they covered for a year or just so many but they cost me nothing till I was a year Post Op, then 68.00.

The accurate answer would be.... it all depends on your individual insuarance. Give them a call, they'll be glad to let you know!

I have united healthcare and they covered my surgery 100% and the first few office visits/ fills. I just had my 4th fill and had to pay my office visit copayment of $30. But to be on the road to a healthier me I'll gladly pay the copayment each visit.

You all are so lucky

My insurance would not pay for the surgery

I borrowed from my 401k

If I keep eating like I was I won't live to retire

That was my thinking

So be grateful !

I was approved for surgery and authorized for 12 fills through insurance. I've already paid my max out of pocket, so no cost to me. My insurance case manager said when the 12 are up, she will just request an additional 12. I have had 4 fills so far and the last two are in the green zone.

Tricare South Prime here. Love it, $12.00 co-pay. Surgery was $25.00.

Really depends on your particular insurance. Mine fills were covered 100%. When I lost my insurance that covered the band, luckily I was at restriction. My doctor charges $200 for an appointment and $200 for the fill.

Honestly I would hope if the insurance pays for the surgery they will cover the fills. I have blue care network they cover everything I just pay a $10 co-pay each visit (thank GOD). Check the insurance company's web site for more info. Good luck :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
