Did Anyone Get Sick From Anesthesia?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was the 24th at 7 am and should have been able to go home that day but the anesthesia made me sick. I spent the first 12 hours after surgery dry heaving and it was painful. I am feeling much better now but still have pain at the port sight. On the good side I am not hungry at all!!

I was sick as a dog after surgery! OMG, that was the worst anesthesia ever!! I was got congested in my chest/nose. I was hacking up phelm, my nose got crusted and bled once when I blew into a tissue. It only lasted a few days, but still! I had anesthesia before, my last one when I had my hip replaced I was put under for over 4 hours while the surgeon worked on me consistantly. I had none of these after affects. I was up, alert, drinking Water, talking, etc. With this surgery, I didn't even know where the heck I was, I barely kept my head up. I felt strung out, LOL. Not in a good way of course

Like I said, it only lasted a few days,. Everyone experiences are different with anesthesia, just keep in mind its a temporary feeling...

They kept giving me anti-nausea medz but nothing seemed to help. I don't know if they gave me one before the surgery but I would highly suggest to anyone about to go into surgery to ask for one beforehand!

I wasn't sick but had some kind of allergic reaction to something because I started sneezing in the recovery room And continued until I finally fell asleep at night in my own bed. My doctor said he had never heard of somone sneezing but the hospital was being renovated in a section near post op and it may have triggered an alergic reaction.

the nurses felt so bad so called him and he prescribed me some Benadryl which of course made me sleepy but I was in and out in seven hours and other than the sneezing had no problems

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
