Stay on your liquids and don't cheat. The hernia situation needs more healing. Stay in hospital! I wouldn't let them take me from recovery! I was there over an hour! Lol

I remember waking up in recovery and for about 20 min I contiplated asking the nurse to hold my hand........that was the only thing in the world I wanted, was for her to hold my hand. I didn't ask.

Hello everyone!!! I have exactly a week left until my surgery I have all types of emotions going through my mind right now...ahh Oct. 3rd is almost here!!!! I have a question....do you think it's necessary to stay over night in the hospital? I originally opted out of staying overnight but after talking to my sister last night she has me going crazy as if I made the wrong decision....what do you guys think? Is the hospital stay necessary??

i was delighted to stay overnight

i am sure going home would have been fine for me

but i trusted my surgeons advice/knowledge and felt comfortable in the hospital that first while after banding.

there is no wrong decision. just relax and stay focused. if you stay overnight or leave same day. its up to each's doctor's preference.

Personally, I'm glad I was required to stay overnight after my surgery. I could not imagine going home only a few hours after surgery, considering the pain and nausea I experienced that first day. It put my mind, and my family's minds at ease knowing I was being taken care of by professionals. There is no wrong decision though. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
