Hungry All The Time

Recommended Posts

I'm 11 months post op. 75 pounds down. And I have 11.5 ccs in my 14. I was in the green for the briefly after my last fill. Now I'm hungry most of the day. I can hear my stomach growling loud just one hour after I ate a yogurt and a handful of almonds. I don't get it. How can this be since I'm almost maxed out? If I get a fill, I will have a real hard time getting anything down. I'm already tight and have to take very small bites.

Could I have an enlarged pouch that requires more food, and is that the same as a slip? I'm looking for some good answers with this one.

Thanks all

It's not uncommon to go in and out of the Green Zone as you lose weight, so don't let that upset you. I know it seems like you have a lot in you band but you actually still have considerable room for additional fills. When you're close to the Green Zone, even a fill as small as .2cc can make a world of difference. I would simply be sure you have very small fills going forward so you don't accidentally over-shoot it right into the Red Zone.

This will probably sound weird, but next time you think you're hungry, really stop and listen to your body. Just because your stomach is rumbling doesn't necessarily mean you're hungry. Banded tummies tend to make more noise overall and sometimes people mistaken a loud tummy for physical hunger. Just a thought.

Best wishes to you.

As Mis says stomach growling does not = hunger. Mine growls all the time.

Yogurt and almonds are slider foods they will not sustain you for very long. You also say that you are so tight that you are having a hard time getting anything down. I think that you may be too tight and may need some Fluid taken out. That might sound counterproductive but then you would probably be able to eat more satisfying foods such as chicken and meat that should sustain you for longer.

Contrary to popular belief tight is not the best way for a band to be.

That makes a lot sense. I see my surgeon this Thursday so i will ask him for a small fill. Im also plateaued rite now. So I hope he will give me. The hunger part is real hunger. I feel it as well as hear it. So u guess i prob need a fill. Dr said losing fat near ir around the band is like taking Fluid out of it. Because it allows more room which means more food needed.

The yogurt and almonds are my Breakfast. I add the almonds to add Fiber to the yogurt. And for lunch I have an open face tuna sandwich with a few cucumbers. Which leaves me satisfied. But only for an Hour or two. I don't know. But I know since I'm not losing I'm not in the green anymore.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
