As Of This Morning, I Now Weight 160 :(

Recommended Posts

It's been 3 yrs and I was down to 144 last Dec (before getting married). My goal is 135. I was almost there, then my band slipped  . I've been gaining weight ever since :o . I said I would seriously start working on it if I ever got to 160. Well todays the day. I've been staying at around 150-155 this whole year, so 160 is a pretty big jump.

If I could just stay away from my nightime eating.. :o .I've been the biggest advocate of not dieting. That's why I got the band in the first place, so as not to ever diet again. And I have never dieted in the last 3 yrs. Now my "free for all" has caught up to me. I don't even need a belt with my jeans anymore. Can't afford a new bigger wardrobe, so guess I have to start counting and measuring, something I promised I'd never do again <_< .

I'm bummed. Thought this band was magic! Now I'm realizing it isn't. Guess I gotta do my part too  .

Sorry to hear that but glad you are nipping it in the butt before it creeps up any farther.

I would try not to think of it as dieting. It really is a lifestyle and not meant to be "dieting". If you are doing the nighttime eating, maybe just not having those snack items available and having healthier alternatives would be enough to do the "trick" and get you back where you were and to your goal. Try to grab a glass of Water instead of the snack or a piece of fruit, etc. You came this far, I am sure you will turn it around.

Best wishes.

I am a night eater too! Its so hard to kick. I am so good until its bedtime, its like a curse! I have been keeping the worst foods for me out of the house. I try with the better ones and keeping the Snacks out all together.

Glad you are able to grasp what is going on!

I had hit a bump in the road a few months back...I had a possible slip, so my band was unfilled 2 cc's. Well, I ate more in a few weeks than I had in a long time.... and had gained 25 lbs to prove it (150 + 25=175). Turned out there was no slip, so asap I got filled again and I am happy to say I am back to my previous weight...actually lower (147lbs). Perhaps, you should see your doctor and consider getting a fill?

I just re-read the post and realized you had a band slip....did they remove your band or put it back in place? are you filled or unfilled? Guess, getting a fill as I suggested may not work if you are having problems with the band.

I can say that when I had that weight gain, I couldnt get immediately in to see my doctor, so for several weeks I counted cals/carbs and measured my food so that I could stop the weight gain and get control of my eating. Those tips the others have given are so awesome too....drink Water, herbal tea, broth, sugar free Jello or a popsicle, fruit n cheese....something light at night if you still feel hungry. Sometimes when you think you are hungry , you are really just thirsty and Water should do the trick. Maybe also do an inventory of your feelings at the time you decide to snack...am I just bored? am I eating a snack out of habit? am I trying to make myself feel better/satisfied in someway? am I really "hungry"?

It sounds like you did alot of work to lose all that weight and kept it off all that time...I'm sure once you put your mind and heart into it, you can lose the weight again. And just think, the weight you have gained is really nothing in comparison to what you have lost in total. Believe in your self!

I know how you feel.

Most people would probably think that after 3 years that you would have everything down pat and that you wouldn't have to think about it anymore but that is so not true. If anything I think the longer you have had your band the harder it becomes to maintain. The band definitely changes from when you are initially banded and it becomes so much easier to eat things that were previously hard, plus it does not seem to control the hunger as well. That for me is the biggest issue. We all know what we should eat and we can do it when our hunger is controlled but when it isn't then it is impossible to stick to a lifelong diet.

You may have to bite the bullet for a while and actually follow a "diet". Just until the weight comes off again. Plan your day and plan for those evening Snacks .

Good luck, I am sure you can do it.

Thanks for your reply. My band had a slight slip about 6 months ago so my PA unfilled me by 1/2. I had 10cc in a 14cc band and they took out 5cc. Let it rest for 4 weeks then slowly fill it back up. Mistake was not xraying me before starting the fill process. After my 2nd 1cc fill, I started the severe nightime reflux again. When I got an xray, it showed my band had never gone back into place, it looked exactly the same. So my dr just took out the 1cc he had previously put in there that sent me over the edge. He said he goes by my side effects and not the xray. If I didn't have reflux and I was still pretty much restricted, then it's ok to leave it be. I occasionally have reflux still (about twice a week) and still have some restriciton. I can't really afford to keep going 6 hrs roundtrip and pay $160 everytime to tweak it.

One good thing now is I rarely vomit anymore. Vomiting often (about 5-10 times a week) is wha got me the slip to begin with. I ate way too fast this past week and it was the first time I've vomited in the last couple months. I just notice that I'm not really restricted like I used to be in the evening. I can still only eat a few bites at a time, but I can go back to it after 30 minutes, whereas before, I would be satiated witha few bites till morning.

Thanks again for the tips!

Marci

Marci, I think about you all the time and wondered how you were doing. I really relate to you, your attitude, and see myself in you. Thank you for sharing your experience. I wish you all the best of luck!!

One thing I think is going on is that your ghrelen levels have returned. I always wondered about that with the band. The sleeve cuts the part of your stomach off that secrets ghrelen, but the band just squeezes it... Keep us posted how you're doing!!!

As far as I am aware the band does not affect your ghrelin levels at all.

My mistake... I thought my surgeon said something about the band squeezing the part of the stomach that produces ghrelin, but it seems that's incorrect... Maybe it's just satiety, not levels...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
