Doc/ Staff In Ca Who's Great For Fills?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm new here but almost 10 years post-op. had surgery in CO but moved to CA. Looking to get established with great office for annual band check ups and occasional fills/ adjustments. I am halfway between SF and LA (in San Luis Obispo) so open to drive anywhere in CA for an excellent fill Doc or his excellent fill staff. Who do you love and want to rave about in CA? Please tell me what you especially like or appreciate that makes you treasure them so much?

Thank you!!

Did you ever have luck finding a fill doctor? I am in a similar position and was looking for a fill doctor as well. Thanks!

Dr. Coirin is not only a bariatric surgeon but also a trauma surgeon. He is one of the most talented dr in the area. He has done over 8000 procedures so he has a lot of experience. His staff is wonderful and caring as is he. He works with you and communicates with you to make sure you are successful but also is very real with you.

Why go to someone with less experience when you can work with the best.

I found a handful, actually! :-) Here's what I learned:

1) A *very* experienced and respected bariatric surgeon, Dr.Cirangle of San Francisco, does give fills in a few different locations including Templeton (northern San Luis Obispo county) to other surgeon's patients but his office charges $2,000 cash per year for that situation. If someone is newly banded and getting fills each month, it would be cost effective.

2) There are (at least) three band surgeons in Santa Barbara, each of whom said they'd be happy to give fills.

Dr. Michael Thoman sounded great, has seminars and support groups. I haven't yet met him,

Dr. Farida Bounoua (she's French and her name is pronounced Boon' wah.) I met and adored her. She seems both warm and very smart- a great combination. Her office staff was really nice. Her office is designated a "Center if Excellence."

Dr. Helmuth Billy- I don't know much about him but he was recommended by someone on LBT. His office staff was nice but he didn't take my insurance. His office is designated a "Center of Excellence."

I heard that there is someone in Santa Maria but don't (yet) have a name.

He sounds fantastic! I'll find out how far a drive it is to Modesto.

Could be 3-4 hr drive :( Santa Barbara is about two hrs.

Yes, a little over 4 hours. For someone exceptional at fills and guidance, I could imagine driving that far but I'm not sure that I'd drive home that same day, which would adds hotel bill to the cost. I'll need to think about it since, so far, I'm impressed with Dr. Bounuoa.

You sound really impressed with him though and that's what I'm looking for. Someone really experienced, really good, with patients who strongly recommend him or her.

Thank you!! :-)

I'd go with Dr Frenchy. She sounds wonderful!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
