CarrieBrownsville 55 Posted September 25, 2012 Well, yesterday wasn't too bad of a day. I was the first one into surgery and left the hospital at about 2:00. From the time they let me, I was sucking on ice chips and then once home, I began sipping. I sipped all the way up until 8:00 pm. At 9:00 I took pain medication, thinking it would help me sleep, but not so. sleep was sporadic at best. Now I'm up and just spent half an hour taking Vitamins. Will wait an hour and then begin sipping. My surgeon has me on Clear liquids for five days before going to heavier liquids. I have gained two pounds since yesterday, but know it's the swelling. All in all, it was not a bad experience so far. I'm going to try and go without pain meds if I can, which would help the healing I'm thinking. At this point, I'm just thankful the surgery is over and now I can start getting healthy. Questions: Do I need to worry about exercise these first 5 days of Clear Liquids? Do I need to worry about bowel movements these first 5 days of clear liquids?
ElleG 394 Posted September 25, 2012 You need to walk. Get into an hourly couple hour routine. Walking around the house not the block . Rest take your pain meds so your comfortable. I think you need to "go" but see how it plays out give yourself a few days if nothing call the doc you don't want a stomach ache from that too. Good luck! 1 CarrieBrownsville reacted to this
Tsign36 37 Posted September 25, 2012 I would keep an eye on the bathroom part.... if you stay well hydrated and if needed take something if you notice starting to feel really bloated it will help when you do go... I know I had serious issues with it and it was not a very pleasant experience! Walk as much as you can... Every hour or two be walking for 20 minutes... I even did it during the night since I wasn't sleeping well anyway. Honestly the more you are moving the quicker you will feel better. Take your pain meds, you don't have to give them up just yet.... but just do your best and you will be wonderful! Congrats on a successful surgery and good luck on your new adventure! 1 CarrieBrownsville reacted to this
tlm1120 11 Posted September 25, 2012 I was banded yesterday too! I slept very little; I couldn't even lie in bed. I slept on and off sitting straight up on the couch. Walking around really helps!! I wish you a speedy recovery!! 1 CarrieBrownsville reacted to this

almostthere11 5 Posted September 25, 2012 Congrats on your decision to get banded Welcome to the band family. I agree to make sure you walk it helps relieve the gas and helps to heal you more quickly. On the vitimans I would call your doctors office I was told not to take them until my 6 week check up since there's so much healing going. Just a thought I know all our providers are different. Again congrats and keep it up your doing great. 1 CarrieBrownsville reacted to this
kerrir235 4 Posted September 25, 2012 I was banded yesterday at 9:00 and left at 11:00 walked around the outlet mall for an hour and just kept walking a lot! I feel really good. Praise God the doctor said it went so well. I feel a little gas pain but nothing unbearable. I am so thankful things are going so well. I started pureed food this morning and it went down just fine. 1 CarrieBrownsville reacted to this
wildrose1966 396 Posted September 25, 2012 I am 8 days post op and took the pain killers day of and day after on schedule just to keep ahead of pain, if there was going to be any. You need to walk a few times a day, even if it is down the driveway and back. You do need to worry about BM, especially if you are taking the painkillers, I was on full liquids 2 days post op and added stool softener to everything.........clinic warned me if I didn't take care of it, it could be trouble. Pooped 4 days post op and had a day of the runs (probably od'd myself) but all is okay for now.
CarrieBrownsville 55 Posted September 25, 2012 Wow! Everyone has different experiences, but yet we all have that common thread of wanting to get healthy. Thanks so much for all the advice. My surgeon keeps his patients on 5 days clear liquids, 2 weeks on a liquid diet, 2 weeks on puree'd and then slowly adding soft foods. This will be quite the challenge, especially when I read about others being able to eat a lot sooner. In any event, I will use the pain meds, concentrate on walking, and do what I'm supposed to do. Thanks for being here!
Wgbem 138 Posted September 26, 2012 I am 2 days post op and feel like crap. I get out of bed to go to the bathroom but that is it. I need some strength. Any advice?
CarrieBrownsville 55 Posted September 26, 2012 Wgbem, are you using heavy medications for pain? I know I'm using some pretty strong stuff that makes me just want to sleep, so am having to fight that. I plan to stop using the meds tomorrow. Please force yourself to walk some and sip, sip, sip! Why do you think you feel so badly?
georgeileen 23 Posted September 26, 2012 My Dr said to take the pain meds Being in pain hinders healing 1 CarrieBrownsville reacted to this
SandraO 22 Posted September 26, 2012 My Dr said to take the pain meds Being in pain hinders healing It only hinders if it causes sedation. But we encourage pain meds to allow patients to walk take deep breaths in etc. 1 CarrieBrownsville reacted to this

lousianalady 44 Posted September 27, 2012 I am 2 days post op and feel like crap. I get out of bed to go to the bathroom but that is it. I need some strength. Any advice? Don't panic. I am 7 post op. I felt so bad day 2 -3. I even had second thoughts about what i did. I think its the meds talking or something. Once i stopped meds and got to moving around it slowly was better. Yesterday was a turning point for me. I even got dressed and went to the store. I had sat out 4 bottles of Water and after making myself take the required amount i felt 100%better. 1 CarrieBrownsville reacted to this
