Need A Buddy .. Texas Here

Recommended Posts

Hey Amber......thanks for being my buddy.....I've lost 28 lbs so far pre op and band...how are you?

I got banded at the end of May and I've lost 30lbs total since this weight loss journey started for me.

I feel jealous sometimes that people are losing without having fills. i feel like a pin cushion since having had quite a few fills now. I know that everyone loses at their own pace and it really just depends, but this is why i reached out to get a buddy and to get more people together to be support for each other.

Oh definitely I agree our bodies are so different....I haven't lost anymore from three weeks ago until now.....but I have first fill on 10/09....excited and scared...I am glad a have a buddy now :-)....I just afraid that they won't put enough saline and I wont lose anymore or if they put too much I will be sick....any advice?

i am not sure who you used .. but i went through True Results and they only put in a max of 1cc per fill. they can give up to 1cc or as little as .1cc .. depends on the way you are progressing .. hunger ... time it takes to eat .. what you are eating .. etc.

i can tell you from experience that the rabbit approach to the green zone isn't the best. or it wasn't for me... i got too tight and had to have some taken out and then i felt defeated. i cried because i felt like i was going to fail .. it really is a mental, emotional and physical thing. we can't just depend on the band to work through our reasons why we got to the size we were and it can't just be up to the band to lose the weight for us.

Hi! I'm Gloria and I'm in Houston. I'm getting banded tomorrow and I'm so excited. I'm using true results too. I use myfitnesspal app and you can add me there as well, htown_chic2002

I'm in north Houston and love meeting new people! I think I'll need more friends going through the same thing, some of my friends are happy for me but don't really care while others seem jealous.

I have a membership at fitness connection and if you're interested we could work out together or share meal ideas.

Good luck to you and keep in touch!!

Cool went through the same company...who was your Dr.? Mines was Dr.Ken Hollis he is excellent but anyway I really can relate with the emotions cause I feel that this isn't going to work, and maybe its because everything I tried prior didn't but I go to the doc on 10/9 (post op) and afterwards I plan to hit the gym right afterwards....

WELCOME GLORIA!!! Congrats and I am thinking of you today!

Kamisha - I had Dr. Hollis too! I love him! I wish there were more support meetings, but the next one is October 30th. I am working with the lady that is over the aftercare program trying to get more meetings in place. Once a month just isn't enough for me and I know there are more people that would love to come to meetings.

I used to be a member of 24hr fitness, but I got to where I didn't want to go anymore. After surgery, I joined LA Fitness after encouragement from a friend that works there and he has been banded for 5 years now. I really enjoy going and the bonus is that my kid loves to go and play. So I don't feel like a bad mom for picking him up from daycare and then going to the gym and putting him in the kids club. He, on more than one occasion, has cried when I said we were going home instead of the gym! LOL silly kids!

I'm in Webster (right outside of South Houston) but moving to Katy area as soon as we can find a place, as my boyfriend got a job in that area and the commute is ridiculous! I'd love to meet people around here! I'm 23, have an almost 3 year old, stay at home currently, getting banded on October 12th (next Friday!). I'm on MyFitnessPal, username is FallonB!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
