It's tough but here are some tips;

1) dont work out alone- go to a gym. Being around other people working out will motivate you

2) Dont go on machines that bore you! I happen to hate the treadmill- which is why I go on the elliptical and the arc machine + I do tons of strength training

3) If all machines are tough for you/bore you then only do 10 mins at a time and then take a break and do another machine (IE- 10 mins elliptical, 10 mins of the arc machine, 10 mins of treadmill. Before u know it you will have done 30 mins of cardio)

Good luck!!

When the weight/inches come off you will be much more motivated!

I didn't start working out until a few months after my surgery. There is a normal "down feeling" or "blues" that comes from being under anesthesia. Honestly, I think I was really going through grief and loss issues regarding my loss of the relationship I once had with food. Me and food still had a thing, but it had changed and it just wasn't the same....not being able to do emotional eating because the "go to" foods I used to eat gave me dumping syndrome or I couldnt digest. I had no motivation either until I went to my first post-op fill appointment and sat in the waiting room talking to other WLS patients. It was motivating to hear about their successes. Oh and I also read success stories on here and watched videos that lap-banders posted on youtube. It helped to see others losing weight and I told myself that since I went through the surgery i was not going to make it be for nothing. I started out just taking 2 to 3 mile walks with my IPod, listening to music that really got me pumped up and then I started working out with a friend so that we could motivate eachother. Have faith that this lifestyle change is going to work if you work it. You will find your motivation somewhere inside of you....if you didn't want to ultimately lose the weight, you wouldnt have had the surgery. So, maybe you just need time or that certain something to click and ignite your motivation.

Take it one step at a time. Then add another one and another one. Workouts don't have to be formal classes or gym sessions. You will have longer term success by choosing exercises that you enjoy and are likely to keep doing for longer. For me, that includes dancing, walking, cycling and swimming.

you are still healing up. Take it easy go for a spin around the mall and you can't start eral working out until your stitches are out anyway. Start light by doing walking then when you are ready start with light weights If you can't afford a gym membership there are plenty of workout vhs/dvds on the market.

Leslie Samone 's walk away the pounds series is good for those going from no working out to something. then work up from there.

I had the same struggle. I did not feel up to exercising for a few weeks, but I did force myself to walk a little every day. I think I was still trying to wrap my head around all the changes I had to make with the bandster lifestyle. A "break up" with food is not easy!

The first 6 weeks is the time for your body to heal. Your focus needs to be on taking care of yourself both physically and emotionally, not losing weight yet (which WILL come in the near future :)). Follow your doctor's instructors, get your fluids in, and move a little every day. Even if it's only 15 minutes.

Go for a walk around your neighborhood. Do an exercise video at home, if you don't have one there are hundreds on YouTube. I don't like going to a gym so I exercise at home. Pick one thing and do it each day, even if its only for 10 minutes, then after a week add something ( more time or a different element) and keep adding each week. That seemed to work for me.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
