Different Kind Of Band

Recommended Posts

What brand of band did you get I've heard some are better than other brands not sure , thinking the doctor probably does not give you diffrent ones to pick from but didn't know if I needed to be concerned about the different bands

It depends on your doctor.

I have the MIDband. I host a monthly coffee group. We have people from various clinics that attend. Some people have the Lapband, some the MIDband and various others. I was told it depends on the persons body type.

I've been banded over 6 years and have had no issues and have been very happy.

I wouldn't be too concerned. I alway recommend to new bandsters try not to compare yourself to others. Don’t go into this journey saying “I’ll never be able to eat this or that ever again.” I can eat ANYTHING except rice and apple skins and no carbonated beverages. Follow the guidelines given to you by your doctor. Take tiny bites and remember to finish what you have in your mouth before you take your next bite.

This is a wonderful place to get information and ask lots of questions.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

i asked my surgeon that very thing (am i getting the lapband or realize)

he stated he used the lapband. i figured since he was my surgeon, he would

know what was best for me. i am sure there are different reasons/issues why

either or is used. but i guess, its up to the dr you have (as tom stated). :)

i didn't think to ask this until the morning of my surgery. My surgeon only does realize bands.. so I didn't have a choice. After doing some research after the surgery, i'm happy with his choice.

I haven't had any problems and my restriction is great. From what I have read and been told, Realize has more forgiveness for things such as bouts of throwing up. However, I've heard that you feel restriction quicker with Lapband.

Idk.. all I know is that I am happy with my 11cc Realize. :) Goodluck!

I totally agree. If you listen to your doctor and follow the guidelines and work with your new "tool" no matter what kind of band you have you will have great results.

My Dr gave me the choice between LB & Realize. I said" what the heck do I know".

They look the same to me , but after talking with him we decided on the LB.

In the US, they use Lapband and Realize. Seems like they also use the Midband in Australia and Canada. My Dr only uses Lapband.

Got the lapband. Supposedly they have less issues with leakage. But honestly the bands are all so similar that the differences are only tiny nuances

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
