Eating If You Don't Feel Hungry?

Recommended Posts

I woke up late this morning so there was no Breakfast. I had lunch with my daughter almost 7 hours ago. A few small bites of steak with MAYBE 1/2 a cup of mashed potatoes. I sit here almost 7 hrs later and I am not one bit hungry. I KNOW I need the calories and Protein though. Anyone ever have to deal with that.....needing to eat but not being hungry?

Even though I have not been banded yet, I honestly believe in not eating if you are not hungry, and after being banded I will still go by that.

I believe in listening to our body. When it's hungry, it will let you know.

I have the same thing with steak. If I have it for dinner, still very full in the morning.

I'm with Maddy. If I'm not hungry I don't eat. I say listen to your body. If you don't get in all the Protein & calories today it won't kill you. Just don't make a habit of it.

Doesn't mean we're right, just our honest opinion. Ask your Dr next visit.

I agree. I went about 20 hours recently without eating. Had an early dinner around 4pm, went to bed early, got up late, was busy with stuff going on- errands appointments, skipped breakfast, wasn't hungry and suddenly around noon realized how long it had been since I last ate. At that point I did have something... it was time LOL.

this is how i see eating or not eating... (think about a baby)

a baby will eat when hungry but turn their head from bottle when full

just try and get as much Protein as you can per day as this is what feeds us now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
