I have never heard of any Dr recommending a straw, but we know all Drs are different.

My Dr said not to drink from straw or chew gum b/c of extra air in your pouch.

To be on the safe side I will call in the morning to make sure I heard correctly . After all I am hearing impaired and may have heard wrong. It makes sense NOT to drink from a straw . Thank you

Now I'm in a conundrum. I'm an advocate on listening to your Dr, but really love a straw with Protein Shakes.< /p>

What to do, what to do?

LOL, I don't mean to laugh but the other day I for the first time drank through a straw. I was super busy, out all day and in a car when I realized I had drank through a straw until my drink was already gone. OMG, I freaked out and texted my buddy (you know who you are) and was reassured I would be okay. I was waiting for something to happen, something bad. Nothing, I was fine. Wheeeeeeeeew!

I don't think my doctor every mentioned not to drink from a straw but it gives me a very uncomfortable feeling so I don't use them.

I've been using a straw in a small cup and haven't had any problems. Today I sipped on Isopure and chewed gum. And was so excited to burp to get the gas out. I think if u had a big cup with long straw that would be bad because as drink goes down you suck in more air.

No straw for first several months... Once healed my dr allowed it. His theory is that air gets in a straw and gets into the stomach when you are drinking. And when you are healing he doesn't want that complication.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
