hello everyone I am so grateful to have have stumbled upon this wonderful support system for lap banders . I have been playing with the idea of weightloss surgery for years now. i recently changed jobs and found out that my insurance covers the lap band surgery, after all is said and done I will only be out of pocket 2000. I am excited. My insurance has a policy of making the patient wait 4 months to have the surgery. I had my first weightloss appt on Monday and I have a tentative surgery date of 01-18-2013. I can't wait!!! I welcome any advice from fellow lap banders . I am doing my best to learn all there is to know. I will be going through True Results. What kind of experiences has everyone had with TrueResults... Or Just lap band surgery all together? What suggestions do you have as far as preparation goes over the next 4 months? For every good experiences how many bad are there? Thanks in advance for everyone's input!!!!

all the posters gave great (tips)

i also use a (salad/bread/side) plate

i put my fork down between bites (chew alot and Protein is in very little pieces)

i drink all day long

i take my Vitamins daily and drink a Protein shake every morning

i dont eat processed items, or fast food

all my food is measured to 3 or 4 oz and kept in fridge so i can get to it easily

like the one poster said, its pretty easy. just help the band by eating to live and not living to eat

I go to True Results here in Austin, TX they are great! I was banded in Feb of this year and have lost 65 lbs so far. Everyone has given great advise so I won't repeat. My additional advise is to get Jean McMillan's book Bandwagon and start readings (there is an ad you can click on at the bottom of this page). This book is my bible i reread it all the time. Good luck on your journey.

One note about True Results, you will meet your surgeon once before the surgery and see him day of surgery. But chances are you won't see him again after that. All your fills are done by the nurse practitioners. If that is a concern for you, you might consider a different doctor. Personally I love the NPs at my office, they are very knowledgeable about the band and diet requirements.

Thanks again everyone... it is so inspiring to hear all the wonderful success stories and thanks for all the wonderful advice. I can't waiting for January. Did True Results make you do a pre-op diet?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
