Stuck: How Long To Wait To Drink

Recommended Posts

I am new to all of this and have only had one fill. Lately I have been on the go and very busy. I have not been paying attention so much to what I am eating or how fast. I have gotten stuck twice this week. The second time was this morning after eating some ham and scrambled eggs. I got stuck, it hurt like a sob, and it came back up. I really want something to drink, should I wait? If so, how long?

I'd say you should wait at least 30 min to drink something after being stuck. Good luck

I know everyone says not to drink when stuck , but for me if I can't get it back up I drink Water and lean way over and it helps flush it out . If you are really sliming then you may not need to drink that will help it slide out Everyones different. After you get it up wait 15 mins and drink s l o w.

Make sure you drink something hot/warm it loosens the band...good luck. Chew Slow small bites. Why are you eating Ham in the morning ...best thing is Protein Shake because of your tightness ..but everyone is different

In my experience, paying attention and eating slowly are the key components of success with the band. Every time you get stuck and have to kick food back up it stresses the plumbing, and that's not what you want. Make a little time for yourself to enjoy your meals. You take time out to go to the bathroom, right? Take time to take care of yourself on the fueling end of things too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
