I just got a fill on Monday, did the liquids for twenty four hours like my doctor recommended then did solid foods. He allows to go from liquids then solids. I've been able to eat anything since the fill. No restriction! What the hell???

First off... when did you have surgery? What fill is this for you? And I know more people will touch on this, but you don't usually feel much restriction for a few fills. I am on my 2nd fill and don't feel any restriction yet. BUT, it will happen.. you just have to be patient!!!

Well a couple things, the band isn't supposed to keep you from eating anything, that's 100% your job to control what and how much you eat. It also isn't supposed to make you feel full, either. The only thing the band is supposed to do is keep you satisfied on less food for longer periods of times. Satisfied meaning not physically hungry.

It also takes most people multiple fills before they have adequate Fluid in their band to satiate their hunger. So, be patient, it will come it just takes time.

First of all you won't have restriction until about 4-8 fills.. Sorry to bust your bubble..

^^wow... Everyone is different, it depends on a lot of things; what size band you have, how much your surgeon put in per fill, how your stomach reacts, it's really hard to say when. My surgeon told me not to expect much restriction until the 3rd fill but I've had my second fill and I have moments when I feel if I had any more restriction I won't be able to eat anything. I'm at 5ccs and for now I'm ok. I scheduled my 3rd fill for november. So it's really based on how your body is.

Best of luck to you. Hang in there, it gets better.

Are you drinking while you are eating? That seems to be my key. If I stick to the "rules" of stopping drinking 30 minutes before I eat and not drinking for an hour after I eat, I feel satisfied longer. I had my first fill Wednesday and I've seen a change in what I want to eat.

I was banded back in July of 2010 but wasn't able to continue getting my fills because I moved away from my surgeon. I have finally found a surgeon who has no problems taking care of me even though he didn't do my surgery. Because of that, he does my fills under fluoro, which I think is great. My band holds 14cc and I believe he stated that it is halfway full. I admit to not following the not drinking while eating. But, I have heard from other people that if they are properly filled, they can almost not do it (when they do it without noticing) because the food is still in the pouch and drinking causes them pain and nausea. I have never suffered that. I know that the band is a tool but I would think that it would help me more. Before I get people all upset with me (lol), how long do you guys take to eat? I know I shouldn't have done it but I ate three fish tacos two days after my recent fill on Monday. More suggestions, please!!

That's the same as my surgeon but I don't think that I should be able to eat three fish tacos the day after getting a fill..I believe that he added almost 2cc. How long do you take to eat? I always start with Protein.< /p>

I try to take at least 20 minutes but I have to really slow down my eating to get there. I think it will take a little time to get restriction. Until then we are in our own. :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
