Do You Think They'll Still Consider Me?

Recommended Posts

I originally looked into getting the lapband surgery when I was at 290+ lbs. I had decided against getting it because the doctor thought it could be my hormones, so the surgery wouldn't have helped in the way would have liked. Additionally, I wanted to know what worked for my body and lose weight on my own. (I can be stubborn).

It's been three years now and I'm down to 260. My hormones haven't been ruled out, however, it seems as though my body just acts as an anomaly (Her words) and survives very well at a lower calorie count. In short, 1200-1500 calories helped me maintain my weight at 290, however if I eat less 500-800ish, it speaks and my body finally listens. This means that when I reach my goal weight I'll still have to eat at the recommended dieting calorie count.

Side note - I have tried many other diets, eating 5 small meals, nixing out meat, nixing out diary, weight watchers, the body diet (I hated that the most), Atkins diet, and I've had two personal trainers who have put me on their meal plans.

I want to look into getting the band because I need this to be my life, my life style, and to be a part of my every day living. I worry about getting pregnant in a few years and struggling with losing weight again, or that age might play heavily in some inability to lose weight.

My doctor has since moved, and now I must choose another doctor. My fear is that since I've lost 50+ lbs they might say I'm fine to do it on my own and not approve me for the band

- Did anyone else have something similar said? Or was able to lose a good amount of weight before talking about getting banded?

I lost 31 lbs during my 6 month diet docs, and I was worried they'd reject me as well and say " oh see she can do it", but my doctor and pa both said both them and insurance companies like when patients lose weight like that because it's shows they're committed to a lifestyle change. I don't think you'll have any problems.

Good job on the weight loss so far!

Your Dr is probably right...you probably can lose most, if not all of that weight on your own...if you're like many of us on here that got the band, we've all lost it at least once.

This issue is not losing it, but keeping it off. You wil hae to eat a reduced amount of food for the rest of your life...the band helps with that.

Don't worry about whether they will deny you...your goal is not only to lose weight...but to keep it off too.

Great job on being such a loser ;)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
