Horrible Pain!!!!

Recommended Posts

I didn't have any gas pain after surgery. But right now I have a horrible pain in the middle of my back between my shoulder blades. On a scale of 1-5 it's a 4. Is this gas pain? Or should I be worried? I've taken some gas-x strips and no help yet.

It's probably gas from the laparoscopy, it typically tends to settle in the shoulders and should go away in a few days. I know it sucks and there isn't anything really to do to get rid of it. My boyfriend rubbed my shoulders and that seemed to help. Good luck :)

Use a hearing pad. I just had surgery on 9/10 and had horrible gas pains in my left shoulder, back of my neck and chest. The heating pad became my best friend. Also, make sure to walk around a lot.

Best wishes.

I rode my exercise bike for three min and that helped the gas get moving. You should try it. Hope it gets better my surgery was 9-12-12

Thanks y'all. I've walked the block and now with heating pad in recliner. It's getting better. This is intense. I had been taking gas-x ever 3 hours or so but didn't today. I won't make that mistake again.

Gas X is not for the type of post op gas which makes a person so uncomfortable.

The best remedy for post op gas pain is to walk, and keep moving as much as you are able to easily tolerate. I also used a heating pad on low, which did help me alot.

Hey hon, that happened to me too! use a heating pad (not on belly) on the back or have someone rub around that area. I gave my hubby a good workout doing that everyday, heehee.

Like most say, walking swinging your arms should help. It will go away...

just remember walking helps but the gas isn't in your legs. try to move the part of your body where the pain is. massages are good too. the heating pad is the best! but if you have a rice pack you can use while trying to move. and drink Water it helps flush the gas.

no actually the gas is not in your legs but if you get them moving up and down they help the torso get to moving the gas , so there for the exercise bike works wonders. you should give it a try. it helped me alot !!!

Thanks y'all!! I just walked around the block 3 times and the hearing pad is working wonders now. I just wonder why it took so long for the gas pain to show up? Maybe it's because today was my least active walking day.

Walking promotes bowel function, that us why we encourage patients to walk.

I had pain so bad and I found it difficult to walk for an extended period of time. I searched on this forum and someone suggested an exercise bike(which I don't have) or to rock in a rocking chair. The rocking chair helped a lot.

Good luck to you and hang in there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
