Has Anyone Had A Slip Correct Itself After A Liquid Diet? Or A 3Rd Band Put In?

Recommended Posts

I had my original band in November 2008. In March 2010, I had a prolapse/slip and was rebanded. I now have another slip. My doctor wanted me to get it removed right away but since I am not having any serious problems, like vomiting, getting stuck or heartburn, he agreed to let me try a liquid diet for 8 weeks and see if there is any improvement. If so, I can keep it longer. At the very least, I will have had 8 weeks of serious self control and feel it will be easier to deal with no band. He does not want to put in a 3rd band, because he said it is very likely that will slip too and he doesn't think insurance will cover it, since I am at my goal weight and have lost 99% of my excess weight. He said he has heard of a slip correcting itself after a liquid diet, but not seen it himself and is skeptical it will happen. He also said even if it is does correct itself it is likely it will slip again in the future.

So, has anyone ever had a slip correct itself after a liquid diet, or, had a 3rd lapband placed?

I am petrified to have it taken out and gain weight back! I am 5' 7 1/2" started at 270 pounds and now down to 155-159 (varies every time I get on the scale). I CANNOT gain weight and so scared I will be hungry without the band and not be able to restrict myself without it.

I don't know an answer to your question but I would be scared to take it out too. Can he switch it to the sleeve to maintain? I am so sacred of a slip. I am at 5 mo post and already have a flipped port.

I'm eager to see if your slip fixes itself with a liquid only diet. My band slipped about 6 mths ago and after unfilling it by half, they waited 4 weeks and started refilling it - but didn't do a follow up xray before starting the fill process. After my 2nd 1cc fill, I started having the nightly severe reflux. After an xray, they determined that my band hadn't moved 1 bit. So he took out the recent 1cc he put in to see if that would fix the problem. I don't have frequent reflux like I used to (maybe twice a week now), but I hate the fact that my band is still slipped. That if I don't have reflux routinely like before, they're just gunna keep it slipped? Guess if I have no symptoms, it's safe to let it stay there?

Let us know how it's going. I'm so scared of losing my band. I'm almoat at goal, but have been gaining since my slip - I'm so afraid of gaining all 100 lbs back!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
