dawn74 1 Posted September 19, 2012 I had a fill last Tuesday 9/11 (I am now up to 5.75 cc in my band). I felt great until yesterday afternoon 9/17 after I took a half of a Vitamin it felt like it scratched my throat and I have been sore ever since. I am having a hard time keeping solid food down. I do not know what is wrong. Anyone ever had this problem? I do not think my band is too tight because it felt fine and I was eating solid foods fine until after I took that darn pill. JackieC 37 Posted September 19, 2012 Maybe try taking chewables instead of swallowing a pill. I have changed all my Vitamins to chewable and it has been very easy digesting them. I would also call you doctor and explain what is going on. Better safe than sorry

dawn74 1 Posted September 19, 2012 Thank you for the responses. I was just hoping it would go away. I keep reading about slippage and that scares me. I would think I could eat more if I had slippage though. Geez I hate to go back to the doctor.

It definitely depends on the size of the pill (some are too large), and my surgeon has told me that taking them whole is safe and acceptable...the smaller ones, that is! lsjudd 4 Posted September 19, 2012 My Dr. Said nothing bigger than a baby aspirin. Everything else should be cut up and/or crushed. YUCK!!
curlyq2 17 Posted September 19, 2012 I also can take a handful of pills all at once without problems
Maddysgram 6,159 Posted September 19, 2012 Sounds like you irritated your esophagus and caused inflammation. You might need to stick with liquids & mushies for a few days. If it doesn't improve, your Dr is always the safe bet. Hope you feel better soon!
dawn74 1 Posted September 20, 2012 Maddysgram- I think you are exactly right. I feel so much better today an had no trouble keeping anything down. I prayed about it too so I know that helped. I will never take a pill like that again. I usually take small gel caps or chewable vitamins. I will have to buy a pill crusher for the bigger pills.< /p> 1 Maddysgram reacted to this

You might look into a pill cutter, in addition to a pill crusher. I had to crush my pills for 2 weeks post op, and there was nothing I could find to disguise the extreme bitterness of the crushed pills. I have one prescription which does not come in a smaller size pill, so when I need to take one, I cut it in half. A perfect size for me. If I take the pills, one at a time, with about a minute between each one, I have no problems.
prchrskd 12 Posted September 20, 2012 Some medications cannot be crushed if time released. It is very important to clear this with your doctor or pharmacist.
