Are you allowed anything else besides Protein Shakes? Maybe some veggies? I found cucumbers were my saving grace with a little bit of fat free italian dressing. The first week sucked. I felt like I was walking around in a haze and, ask my kids, I was extreemly witchy. After the first week, it got much easier. I didn't really cheat other than having some turkey sausage for a snack. I just told myself that if I didn't follow the pre-op diet, then when it came time for the surgery, the doctor wouldn't be able to do the surgery and my sacrifice would be for nothing. Don't get me wrong....I was not this zen during the diet. I was slowly breaking up with my second greatest love.....FOOD!!!!! Even a week and a half post band, I still get a little blue thinking about eating things like bread and stuff.

Good luck to you and keep your head in the game. Just try to set mini goals for yourself and get over this first week.

Just a note on cucumbers, I was stictly told nothing with seeds......cucs, strawberrys, blueberrys, I don't think those come in until about 3 weeks post op.

Good luck, you will do just fine.

DO NOT chew gum the artificial sweetners cause hunger! Soup/broth will fill you up. The first two days are the hardest! I'm on day 9 of 14 day liquid diet and I"m not even hungry. It's easier than I thought. What is keeping me 100% compliant is the safety of the surgery. I haven't cheated at all.

I am on Day 7 of a 10 day liquid diet (Protein shakes). It is pretty hard but I agree with the above. I don't feel as much angst as I did the first 4 days or so. Also' date=' I understand the importance of the diet physically and mentally. I have not had a bite of food for 7 days. This is a clear message on how little I really need to survive. :) Good luck on your surgery. Mine is scheduled for 09/27!![/quote']

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
