May 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Hello "May Band Crew 2006". I just had some egg beaters and it felt good to have some thing hot to eat. I have had Protein Drinks for over two weeks and needed a break. I will be going back to work tomorrow and I feel like it is no better time to go . Get it over and deal wth it. I just feel a little bit slower then usual but I will make it.

Damn the "May Band Crew 2006" has grown to such a lovely team!!! All of you first May week banders must be getting ready for your mushies or already on them:clap2: !!.. I need to find some new food:hungry: ideas for the first two weeks?

I do not fell any restriction at all!! Does everyone feel like that? HMMM:confused:

I don't know that I feel any real restriction but boy do I get full off of very little "food". I can't get an entire Protein Drink down in one sitting (11 oz box). I have to sip a little, come back in about an hour and sip a little more. A cup of broth takes about 45 mins to get down. I just take my time. I'm sippin' all day long. Water, Protein drinks, broth, Decaf coffee and decaf tea. I've thought my inablility to get lots of stuff down was due to post-op swelling. I know there's no saline in that band. I won't get any for five more weeks. Maybe it's all in my head? I hope it stays that way :)

I will say I am SO tired of fruity sweet stuff that I could SCREAM! I look forward to my broth for something salty and some other flavor than sweet. I never in a million years thought I'd say, "I don't want anything sweet!"

Hi I just got banded on May 9th at midnight. in Mexico (long story) How long did they tell you to wait before exercise? my Dr. didnt tell me hardly anything let alone after surgery they didnt give me any pain meds at all so I took my IV and walked to the pharmacy a couple bldings down and bought childrens liquid tylonol. Any way it was a real experience.:omg:

Lorri,

Who was your Dr in Mexico? I am not yet banded, and I am going to be o May 30th inMexico. From all the posts tht I have read peope have been told a variety of things about exercise. The biggest thing that I have read is to get up and walk everyday (times vary depending on the person). I would suggest just starting with walking, and then move onto other types of exercise once you feeel more healed. Good luck

Hi Semi

I'm eating 1 scrambled egg with 2 oz of melted chesse and it equals 19 grams of Protein. Yesterday, I bought some corn chowder Soup (already made) and pureed it. It was soooooooo good, the best I've eaten since before banding. I was banded on the 8th. I do get my medications stuck even though they are cut in 1/2 and 1/4. The gas pains have increase so I'm now taking gas-x, other than that I'm doing great and am ready to go to the movies to Celebrate Mother's Day.

take care

Laura

Laurapar,

That is great you had some Soup. I have not had any "creamed soup". Does this also mean clam chowder but pureed in blender? Is that the deal will all Soups put it in the blender?

Hi everyone,

I had my surgery on Friday. For the most part it went very well. I spent about 6 hours in recovery, my breathing was very shallow. I spent the night and got home Saturday evening. It was good to sleep in my own bed. Feeling a little sore by the incisions ( i have 5). I am sippin Soup, drinking Water and juice. I will not get on the scale for 1 week.

I am taking things slow for now.

Hang in there everyone.

I am so thankful for this site with all the great info and support.:clap2:

Seminole

We were banded the same day. I blended chicken noodle Soup and it went down well. I've also bought some Trader Joe's soups (in a box) that are creamy and am having no trouble. I have added a little butter and milk to mashed potatoes and that was wonderful! I don't see why clam chowder or any soup wouldn't work, but do watch out for chunks that didn't blend well. They might cause you some grief. If the soup is too thick, thin it with a bit of milk.

Hi Semi,

I've also thicken some of my Soups with mashed potatoes; haven't had any problems so far. I use my blender every day..puree Soup or make a Protein Shake. I made a smoothie with low carb ice cream, skim milk, splenda, scoop of Protein and 1/2 c frozen berries. First time I tried it and it's good. I'll have to do it again; I can't taste the prortein :) .Still hard for me to get in the 64 oz of Water.< /p>

good luck on your mushies.

Hi May Bandsters,

Trip2BeMe - Thanks for understanding-the cheating that is! I have been back on liquids for a couple of days now. It is really hard knowing that some of the people who were banded the same day as me or even after are already on mushies or solids. I am starting to feel hungry now. The liquids just aren't cutting it for me. I have resorted to pureeing up cottage cheese. I justify this by saying that if I were to use a straw, and suck really, really hard, it would fit through :nervous

I think I can make it through one more week. I am actually planning on starting mushies next Sunday. It's one day early, but I really think my body is ready now. I had no problem with the solids I did eat that one day.

The only problem I seem to have is when I take pills. My doctor told me I could take small pills with Water, but, even after cutting an advil into 4 peices, I get a pain in my chest until they go down.

Other than that, I am doing well, my energy is back, and I am planning to start water aerobics at the YMCA this week so I will probably have to up my calorie intake a little. I am aiming for between 1000 to 1400 per day. According to my dietician, I burn 1400 calories resting, so staying at or below that, I should be ok!

Ok, I've rambled on long enough! Take care all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello everybody, i just got back from mexico from having surgery with dr rumbaut on may 11th. many people were there at the same time from the states. i lost 21.5 lbs in 10 days on the liquid diet (last 3 days of that were clear liquids). had several minor problems (none of them medical),with hotel, etc., but overall was good. dr r. and staff are very good, friendly, and kind. nursing care at hosp. could have been better though. now i have 3 weeks of full liquids ahead of me, then soft foods.

i am glad to be back home and enjoyed looking over the posts i missed while gone. good luck to all may bandsters!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Hello, everyone! Some random thoughts:

I had my suregery last Tuesday, the 9th, and today was the first day I felt hunger pangs. I made a can of low fat cream of chicken Soup, thinking that since I was "ravenous" I could easily eat the can and once I got through about 10 spoonfuls I felt like I just ate a Thanksgiving dinner. How weird.

On another note, I've lost 5 lbs. since the surgery, for a total of 15 lbs so far, and I've had my first NSV (non scale victory)... I went to get a maincure and the nail lady gasped when she saw me. She asked if I was on a diet and she said my face looked "so" thin. That was pretty awesome. I guess I'm still bloated from the surgery so my pants are tight, but apparently my face is thinning out, which is really nice.

Last thing, for now. I ordered some of the clear, fruit flavored Isopure zero carb Protein drinks - they taste like Gatorade or Vitamin Water - they have 40 grams of protein, no fat, no sugar and are 160 calories. So far, I like them all - a lot. Good protein alternative to the Protein Shakes if you're sick of the milkshake schtick. You can find them in GNC or have them shipped directly to you from the Isopure website, which I think was actually cheaper and there's a better selection. The grape frost reminds me of grape kool aid. Yum.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
