Tracyd 0 Posted May 26, 2006 I was banded yesterday and I actually feel just great. I was given the choice of staying overnight or not and I chose to stay overnight. I got very nausious (sp?) and started throwing up :cake: (I always wanted to use that icon). Boy did the nurses every get in the anti-nausea med in my IV fast ... Stopped it immediately and completely put me out for the night:faint: . They were glad I chose to say because that's one thing they don't want people with lap bands doing is:puke: (got to use it again!:cheeky ). I'm home today and the only pain I've had is the gas pain ... they gave me some gas drops, but actually sitting up very straight and standing and walking makes it feel much better. I have NOT had to take any pain meds because the pain just isn't there. I'm amazed. I'm also not hungry ... know it's the recover time, but it feels weird and at the same time GREAT. Good luck to all bandsterds.:gluck:
beachgirl 2 Posted May 26, 2006 OMG, I wasn't aware I would have to have a catherder. How many of you had to have a catherder. Please, I had one once and it hurt sooooo bad.
Mvpo8961 1 Posted May 26, 2006 I didn't have one and I peed all over the recovery room bed. Too bad for them. Where did you get the idea that you had to have one? By the way as I came to and realized every time I coughed I was peeing I started apologizing and telling the RR nurse to put a catheter in. But it was too late . TIDGE 0 Posted May 26, 2006 I didn't have a catheder, the nurse said that as long as I got up and pee'd within 8hrs post op I wouldn't need one. I've had one for other op's - it's okay, a bit uncomfortable to have pulled out but only for a few seconds - you'll be fine either way.Regatds, Tidge. tamt 0 Posted May 26, 2006 :hungry: Hi all. I was banded on May 16th and am still on full liquids! I am feeling pretty hungry and I have a strong urge to chew something up. Any ideas on how to help control this feeling? Also I have only lost 12 pounds since surgery...am I drinking to much or am I on track? I had my surgery done by Dr. Kam at Barix clinics in Ypsilanti MI Thanks! *This site has been my bible! You are all awesome!
Tracyd 0 Posted May 26, 2006 mysherrijo: I didn't have a catheter (I don't think). If I did they put it in while I was under and took it out before I woke up. tamt: My doctor said that I could chew sugarless gum. 12# since May 16th? I think that's absolutely terrific. I got banded yesterday in Grand Rapids MI and will be on full liquids for 2 weeks. I meet the dietician/nutritionist on June 6 and she'll give me directions from there as well as a follow-up with my doctor. Them I meet them both again in July. Water exercise: The exercise therapist said not to do for at least 6 weeks after surgery.
jessasband 0 Posted May 26, 2006 Hi all, I was banded 5/19 and all went well until I had to travel home. I had gone alone and traveling back to CA from MX through Dallas is just about the worst trip I can imagine. I am planning on going back down for my first fill under fluoro in about 5 weeks so I guess I better start imagining! I was surprised at the pain I have had. Port pain and chest pain like I have a hard time breathing. Sharp pain at times when I breathe in. Am told this is all normal but from other posts I have read it was all rosy glow and no pain at all. Anyway, I am 1 week out now and feeling a little better. I went back to work on Tuesday and finally felt productive yesterday. I got on the scale today and have lost 8 lbs. I know that there is a possibility that I could gain weight but hopefully I won't.:cake: I have more more week of liquids to go so if anyone is an early May bandster & wants to give any ideas for the mushie stage please post back! I'm feeling human again,:clap2: Jessica
Kelly_Girl 0 Posted May 26, 2006 Kelly-Girl, I love your avatar. Is that your dog?:pound: Thanks, LindaV. Yes, that is my dog. His name is Cuervo. My other dog's name is Jose! I must run, now. On the way to the airport. My surgery is tomorrow!!!!
Mystjin 0 Posted May 27, 2006 I didn't have a catheter either. Thank goodness! By the time they finally got me up to go, I filled up the measuring cup they had in the toilet. Phew:eek: I still can't believe how painless it was!! This is fantastic so far. I'm just afraid that when the swelling goes down, I will be hungry again. I had my surgery done by Dr. Kam at Barix clinics in Ypsilanti MI Thanks! *This site has been my bible! You are all awesome! Don't feel bad. I lost 6 pounds the first few days after banding and then gained a pound!! I don't think I've lost anymore weight though I only weigh on Saturdays. I'm on mushies but I'm so hungry that I eat a lot of meat which seems to work. I make very soft meat and vegetables for dinner and fail to eat the whole thing; then I'm hungry a few hours later. I've been eating deviled eggs which taste good and are soft. I have to be on mushies for another week though I think I'm failing the mushie test. The thing is I get full when I eat, but it doesn't last long enough. But I get a fill on June 9 so maybe things will improve.
bitteroldhag 0 Posted May 27, 2006 I had not quiet so easy a time. They had a tough time getting me breathing and then I was so sensitive to the meds that I was hallucinating...quite entertaining I guess. My incision areas and the port area burns when I move and I've got a lot of gas pain. More today than yesterday. Guess it's moving..but I also think I have some gas in my stomach from the Protein. Other than that I feel pretty good. I would do it again in a second. So, none of you hesitate if you're on the edge. I am not hungry at all...weird since I haven't had an real food for since Monday and that was just liquids. I keep wondering when I'll feel hungry again....not that I miss it or anything! Janey Sorry to hear about your problems, but you seem to have recovered. I wasn't hungry for about a week after the surgery, but I am now. Hunger will return. I liked the not being hungry part better.:cry

I'm feeling human again,:clap2: Jessica I had quite a lot of pain the first day out of the hospital. Dr. Rodriguez makes his patients stay in the hospital the first night and then sets them free. I was so full of carbon dioxide that I was miserable, but walking helped though not a lot. It took about a week to get rid of all that gas, but I am two weeks out and feeling fine. So I agree, we should tell people there is likely to be pain (dolor in Spanish), but it doesn't last a real long time. Also I thought I'd mention that I didn't get a catheter but they gave me at least 3000 cc of saline solution so I had to pee a lot. I didn't make it to the bathroom every time though I didn't know it until I woke up from the pain medication and found a rubber sheet on the bed. I did make it to the bathroom quite a few times and it was such a relief to pee. Besides the bathroom in the Santa Engracia hospital in Monterrey is a lot nicer than any bathroom I'd ever been in -- all marble and granite and gold fixtures. Wow!
