May 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Lorri,

It's really common to feel no restriction until you get a fill so don't worry. Doctors aren't concerned about weight loss for the first several weeks because of theat. If you do lose, think of it as a bonus. If not, it will come when you get a fill and have restriction.

In the meantime, I am tracking my daily intake on fitday.com. Once I go on mushies (next week), I will go back to the Weight Watchers point system to help keep myself on track until I get some restriction.

Don't push solids too fast. Give your band a chance to heal into place. I know it's hard. I'm pretty hungry these days.

Good luck!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE BEEN BANDED

:)

AND

THOSE YET TO BE BANDED!!

:success1:

Kim ~ Great job.....5 lbs!! :scales: Your doing super!! I lost 1.5 lbs over the weekend and found it difficult to stick to the liquids away from home. I did have my Optifast several meals, but did stray a bit. :phanvan Today is better, although Aunt Flo is coming....:cry I go for pre-op tests on Thurs. Can't wait to drink that barium stuff. :P So you say it was good? I bet your glad that part is behind you.

Hippo's Hope ~ I have used regular cooking oil to remove tape residue. Rub a little in and it just rolls off your skin with a wet cloth.

escudero012004 ~ Welcome to LBT. Your band date is my bday.:biggrin1: Congratulations!! :welcome2:

Hi everyone. I'm officially a member of the BAND CLUB now!! I was banded on 5/11 by Dr. Aceves. Everything was so nice there. Now that I'm home and back to my "real" life, I'm finding that this liquid thing is really hard. My stomach is always making noises. And they are LOUD. If it's not growling, it's gurgling.........if it's not gurgling, it's churning........if it's not churning, it's getting ready to explode. And if I'm not by a bathroom.........well, that's just my bad luck. Everytime something goes in my mouth, it just doesn't stop until it comes right back out the other end! :) Talk about an unpleasant surprise. I haven't told any of my co-workers yet so they will certainly think I've come down with a serious illness when I go back to work tomorrow. I still haven't came up with a glorified response yet.

Well, just wanted to let everyone know that I'm back...already looking forward to the "mushies" but other than that--I AM SO EXCITED!!!

This was my first day back at work, but I got way tired and came home to sleep. DH came home from work and found me in bed. I started to get up he said to lay back down. He "eyeballed" my profile said the tummy mountain wasn't as high.

I have a question, not just for you, but anyone who has been banded around the same time period as us. Do you feel any smaller? Do your clothes fit any different? I have lost some weight, but my clothes don't fit a bit looser. I know I have only lost 14 pounds, but I am not naturally a large person and I thought I would be able to tell a little anyway. I wonder if my stomach could still be swollen from surgery. Waistbands still bother me quite a bit. Maybe I will stay swollen longer too because I also had my gallbladder removed and a hernia repair at the same time.

Hope

We were banded on the same day and YES! I feel so much smaller.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I've lost 20 lbs. as of today :) and my clothes are looser, my bras actually fit right and don't dig in and my favorite undies don't roll down under my belly anymore.

I'm amazed at how much I've lost. I don't know if it is the actual poundage (is that word?) or the inches I've lost from walking vigerously every day. Or maybe a combo of the two.

Hang in there, HH, I'm sure you will start seeing a difference soon.

Stitchy - Its great to have your husband notice, isn't it? Mine gave me a hug yseterday and told me my derriere (dairy-air sp???) was smaller? It's great to hear that from someone else because, I just don't notice it yet myself. I guess this was my first NSV. Good thing, the scale hasn't been too cooperative the last few days!

This is cute....thank God for DH's. :biggrin1: Hope tomorrow is a better day at work.

Hey CLOE, Optifast does get old very quickly. Hang in there. I have some from last year and they expire 6-06 so I really want to use them up & hope to lose a few lbs in the process. :success1: I can't believe it's only 10 more days. :) It just seems like yesterday I was fighting the insurance battle. I'm really starting to get some "real" support from my mom, so I'm feeling even better as the date draws near.

kelli ~ So glad to hear your doing well!! Your ticker looks great now, so I guess you figured it out. :clap2:

OMG - A friend, banded last year, after hearing about my horrible slip up yesterday brought me some homemade pumpkin Soup. It is in a word, ...I can't even think of a word...beyone deliscious...beyond savory.

I will definately post the recipe once she sends it to me!

So...(slurps), back to my Soup

I can't get this out of my mind. I had to look back to see who posted it. Do you have the recipe? I want to try some. :hungry: Do you deliver? :)

I am now 5 days post op, gas pains gone thank god! I am on liquids for 2wks and I am already sick of it but I wont cheat. I am confused about the liquids they say you can have. In hospital they gave me two yoghurts which were not liquid form. I would say they were the same texture as jelly or moose, but I have already lost 7lb. I will work out how to change my ticker.

Banded 12th May = 224lb

5 days post op = 217lb

Hey Everyone! Congrats on those who have gotten your band so far!

Sound like you guys are kicking butt!

Hey 3loves and Cloe! Glad to see you guys are hanging in their. This liquid diet thing stinks! I may never "eat" chicken broth again!

I was glad to get my pre-testing done.. The minute I got their they handed me paperwork about the Bariatric Upper GI stating that I shouldn't take my morning meds before the procedure, well that would have been nice to know BEFORE I arrived at the hospital! I had already taken my meds...When they called to schedule me for the pre-testing they told me no eating or drinking after midnight the night before, but forgot to mention the no taking meds thing! Luckily I had taken them really early yesterday with just a tiny sip of Water so, they went ahead with the Upper GI! My EKG was good, blood pressure was good, so as long as everything in the blood work and Upper GI looks okay, I've got the green-light for surgery on the 26th! WOOO HOOO! I'm supposed to arrive at the hospital at 7:45 AM and surgery should be at 9 or 10AM.

3loves - 1.5 lbs is great! Especially since you don't have to be doing the Optifast thing at all! What a pal you are! The liquid thing is very difficult to stick to... last night I cooked supper for my parents and brother.. while they gobbled up pork chops and veggies, I sipped on broth! I was proud that I didn't give in to the temptation to sample my cooking! On Suday we had a get together at my grandmother's house for Mother's Day.. My aunt had made homemade strawberry cake and homemade wet chocolate cake.. I got to sit between my cousin and aunt on the sofa while they gobbled down cake and ice cream and talked about how delicious they were! I didn't have any though!:speechles :speechles:speechles That was tough!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

3Loves - Sorry, I I forgot to post the PUMPKIN SOUP recipe. I have been to busy enjoying it! Anyway, here it is.

EASY pumpkin SOUP

2 T olive oil

2 cloves garlic smashed not chopped

1 shallot roughly chopped ( just enough to release the flavor and sweetness…you can also use ¼ of a sweet onion)

1 small peice of peeled and chopped ginger

(about the size of 1/2 your thumb)

2 C chicken broth/stock (you can add more if you like thinner soup)

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1tsp salt

1 15 oz. can pumpkin puree (not the one that is already spiced for pie)

1/4 C cream or half and half ( you could even use milk if you wanted to lessen the calories)

1 T butter

dash of pepper

Over med heat in a 2 qt saucepan heat the olive oil. Add the garlic, shallot and ginger. Cook until tender but not brown—about a minute. Add salt, and stock. Let this simmer for 15 minutes. With a slotted spoon remove the garlic and ginger, and shallots from the liquid or strain reserving the liquid. Add the pumpkin puree and stir until smooth. Add the cream and the nutmeg and the butter. Bring this to a slow boil. Let this simmer for 5 minutes. Serve with a dash of black pepper or some parmesan cheese. Makes 4-5 cups.

My husband made me some for Mother's Day. We didn't have fresh ginger so we just used dry and we used onion instead of shallot. It was still good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
