May 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Well I am all packed and will be leaving my home at 3:00am tomorrow morning to go to Gatwick London (which is about 1.5hr drive) to fly out to Brussells. I should arrive about 9:40 with a 2.5hr journey to the hospital. I will be meeting the surgeon who will be performing the op on friday 12th but not sure what time it will be. I will report back as soon as I can which will more than likely be Sunday night.

Hello May Bandsters! I have a question. Who was allowed to eat normal food soon after surgery and who like me is suppose to stay on liquids the first month?

I'm suppose to stay on liquids, but I've found that I can mush soft food up and eat that too with no problems. Nothing bad, still keeping my Protein up around 60+ grams. But I've tried things like mush veggies and chopped up chicken and roast. No more than 4 oz. of any of it.

I just need to CHEW something!

I was on a clear liquid diet for the first week after surgery. Yesterday at my 1 week post op appointment he bumped me up to liquids and mushies as long as I chew the hell out of the mushies.

Guess it just depends on your doc!

Hey guys!

I'm home...very sore and tired but home. My experience was fine and I feel a whole lot better than I thought I would. liquids are hard as heck to get in. The very last thing on my mind is eating. I'm doing by breathing exercises, walking, passing gas (what fun and oh, so lady like!) and just trying to get back in the swing of things.

I'm going to work my peach Jello right now and take it easy. I'll post more when I feel more human.

Marianne

Hey Justduckies,

I was banded on the 1st and I saw my surgeon today. The reason for the liquid diet is because you stomach muscles don't have to work to digest it. It just passes right through to your intestines to be absorbed. Mushy and soft food, even chewed well, cause you stomach muscles to have to work. Since your band is still healing into place, you should try to make it as easy on your stomach as possible.

I have been able to get most things (even meatloaf and mashed potatoes) thin and smooth (like cooked cream soup) when I blend them with liquid. When I can get the taste of the food, I don't feel so deprived.

My doc has me on liquids for 3 weeks. I am so sick of yogurt smoothies and Protein shakes, but, the up side of the liquid diet is more rapid eight loss.

Good luck!

Wow am I excited to read all of the posts from the May-B's. I scheduled my date for May 30th with Dr. Ortiz. I wanted it to be close to Memorial Day so I wouldn't forget my aniversery date...I tend to do that.

Heather "Outdoorgrl"

Welcome to LBT Heather and CONGRATULATIONS on your band date!! My surgery was originally on 30th and they called me back the same day to change it to the 26th....I told them no problem, as long as they keep moving it up and not back. :biggrin1: My bday is the 31st of May so I should be able to remember my band date. :) I love your avatar!! You seem to have a fun spirit....it great to welcome you to our May Band Crew!!

:welcomeB:

Justduckies,

I am supposed to be on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks, full liquids for 2 weeks, then the mushy stage. I am struggling really hard. I'm trying to cheat, which isn't beyond me.

Of course, there was a 'manual' that I just received in the mail yesterday...should have had it 4 days pre-op. The manual gave me the complete instructions. I'm sure the personnel did too, but with all the drugs, heck if I remember!

I really felt good this morning, but think I overdid it. For lunch today I had Egg Drop Soup (don't know where that lies on the clear/full side) and quite a lot of it...but there wasn't any starch in it. Since 5 this evening, I've been feeling yucky. Sooo, I thought, I must be hungry. I went to Tim Hortons and tried Cream of Mush Soup...spitting out the chunks. I feel worse than I did before.

So, now I'm questioning myself. I can't figure out if I dropped or slipped or something when I picked up a basket of clothes I should have left alone...I felt something weird go on inside me. I don't have any symptoms, but feel weird today. Maybe it's the weather.

okay...not what you asked for...I am really thinking it's smart to be on clear liquids for the rest of my two weeks! <ick> i know I felt a lot better when I was true.

Well, the time has finally come...I'm leaving tonight on an airplane. I've been nervous all day. I'm excited though. My doctor did not put me on a pre-op diet so I've been enjoying every last one of my favorite foods. I'm having a hard time letting go of food emotionally. But, I'm sure I'll be fine once I have my mind on something else.

Congrats to all of you who were banded this week and last. This thread is so huge that I'm afraid I won't be able to read all the posts after being away for 4 days!

I'll send an update as soon as I'm able...

Hello May Bandsters! I have a question. Who was allowed to eat normal food soon after surgery and who like me is suppose to stay on liquids the first month?

I was banded on May 1 and I'm on liquids for three weeks. My program doesn't distinguish between clear and full liquids. Doc says I can have anything I can drink through a straw. Nutritionist says any liquid is ok so long as there are no chunks. After the first three weeks, I have mushies for two weeks, then 1 week of regular food before my first adjustment.

Thanks for your answers! I appreciate it. Trip2bme, I know the feeling. I do a whole lot better when I make sure I stick with my liquids.....even if it's roast, purreed in my Bullet with some Water. Linda -- Thanks for the reasons, my doc never really said why....just do it!

As for yorgurt smoothies, this is how I make mine. I take Yoplait light vanilla, some kind of protien powder (choc., van, strawberry) one scoop, and 4 oz (1/2 cup) of skim milk -- blend well. Not too sweet! Yummy!

OK, another question......how many of you are doing at least 30 min. of exercise a day/ every day? I had to sign a contract with my doc that said I would. And I have!:clap2: And are you finding it hard to get your 64 oz. of Water in a day? I do pretty well with that. I've decided to keep my liquid as just water.....I don't add anything. I've heard Crystal Light makes you hungry (the Equal/Nutrisweet stimulates hunger), so I've been trying to stay away from flavored water except as a treat. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
