Congrats! I was banded 1 week ago and my first day was very rough for me. Mostly nausea and gas pains in my chest, but I walked walked walked it out like they said and it passed quickly. The soreness at the sites doesn't really bother me unless I'm trying to bend. My biggest problem now is that I'm huuuunnngry!!!! Not all day. It's the nites that get me. My stomach is having a concert every evening by midnite. I can't wait for stage 2 eating!!

Congratulations, I think there are about 4 of us who were banded yesterday. I have had a pretty easy go of it. Staying ahead of my pain with meds, and apart from a wee bit of gas pressure in my chest (burping gets rid of) and your standard ache from your surgery area, I am doing great. Napping lots, slept well, trying to get up and about.

Take care of yourself and have a great day!

Goingfoit, the last couple days I've tried saving my last Protein Shake for an hour before I go to bed. I'm a second shifter so am used to having my "dinner" when I came home from work around midnite so I thought that might help me a bit. Last 2 nites it seemed to help a little. I also keep a drink next to my bed to sip on in case maybe it's just dehydration.

Anyway, I guess I thought the band around my stomach would make me not feel hungry??? Umm, huge reality check. Hopefully after our first fill it will be different....

Tonight I'm making a homemade lentil Soup that I'm going to blend hopefully that extra Protein will keep me fuller longer. I have my post op tomorrow morning so I'll ask some questions.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
