My Band Slipped :(((

Recommended Posts

I originally had my surgery 03/19/2012 since then I've lost 63 lbs. Last month I was having a lot of vomiting and heartburn so my Dr told me to get an xray done, sure enough my band slipped significantly low he told me I needed emergency surgery in order to stop a perforation from happening but he only released my band via 3 openings and that same day right after the surgery I was@ Wal-Mart getting things needed for my home. On 09/12/12 I got my band re repositioned and now I feel sooo weak weaker ( I believe) then when I got it done back in March. Ugh! :( I don't want to think as this as a wrong choice to get this to begin with. So confused and weak its ridiculous.

Sorry to hear that. What caused the slip?

Thank u guys. Yes its really awful. I think that what caused the slip was that I had gotten a band adjustment 1 or 2 weeks prior getting my food changed by my nutritionist. I'm guessing that just switching to more solid foods like tuna or chicken salads did it for me right after the adjustment. By the time that my band slipped I already had 6.5 cc's in my band at first ( 1st 2wks) I felt fine but then I started to notice how my food was getting stuck little by little and more often so thats when started to find relief in vomiting causing the slip

It sounds like you're saying as you gained more restriction, you did not re-learn how to eat and purposefully PB'd to relieve the pain of being stuck?

it has been 3 years since my surgury. I am at goal for about 8 months. For the last year though, I have had severe hearburn. My doctor thinks it is normal, he hasnt done any type of xray . I do have issues with food still getting stuck and have very little cc's in my band. I think I am at about 3. I have not lost any more weight for about 7 months which is fine with me...I am 150 pounds. I am in not pain or discomfort, except when I have something stuck. Can anyone give me insight as to if you think my band has slipped? now I am freaked out!

This post is of interest to me too. In the spirit of not cross-posting, I'm going to start a new post with a subject related to vomiting. I had surgery on 7/13 and recently had 4 cc's added as I desired more restriction; however, even after 2 months I still need to focus very diligently on eating. I'm still eating a lot of Soups and liquids, since those are easy and about all my appetite desires. When I had the band inflated last week, my doctor did advise me to return to Phase I and resume a liquid diet for 2 weeks, which possibly is intended to avoid the slippage mentioned by the OP. I'm not sure.

I would say if you cannot eat normal foods and have remained on a mostly liquid diet for an extended period of time, then you should be getting a slight unfill and not the opposite. I cannot believe your DR would do another fill after learning you are not eating solids and would recommend a 2 week liquid diet following a fill.

I had my surgery on January 28th, 2012. Just last week, 9/18 I was in surgery. Last Saturday I went to the hospital for excruciating pain and was told I was constipated. The pain only worsen and by Monday I was throwing up black fluids. When I had the official lap band X-ray on Tuesday Morning they went in later that afternoon and redid the procedure. It is a terrible feeling. I would never wish the pain on anyone from a band slip. I am extremely nervous the stress from my job is going to cause this to happen again. I was doing so well since August when I had Fluid taken out. I was not throwing up and I felt decent. I am due back to work on October 1st. I took a few extra days off than a week because my body is not handling the liquid diet well. I am very weak. I am debating on even returning to work. I can not make up my mind right now. So many things are going through my mind! I hope you are feeling better! Feels good to vent to others with the same issues and lap band!

Tom

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
