335 Calories?!?!

Recommended Posts

Started my pre-op diet yesterday and tracked everything on my fitness pal and ended the day with 335 calories! And that was before figuring in my exercise. Is this normal to have such a low caloric intake during pre-op? I'm worried I won't loose anything because my body goes into "starvation mode"....

what type of pre op diet did your dr/nutritionist put you on? (sounds/seems very low to me) but i cant answer as i dont know what type of (diet) you are on.

You should be reaching at least a normal 1200 calories a day. Now, when you excerise you are subtracting the amount of time you work out daily from the 1200 calories. Does that sound about right? How many calories are you getting in daily before you subtract from your exercise?

Now depending on your plan your surgeon/nutrionist gave you to follow, what is the allowed calories daily?

Even if you're only supposed to do three shakes a day, these numbers seem too low as most shakes have 150-200 calories each. What are you eating and what are your pre-op diet requirements?

I was on 5 Optifast shakes which was 800 calories. cold turkey on caffeine and I was allowed 2 sf Popsicles and chic broth if I needed it. and I didn't. After day 4 I was fine. The first 3 days I wanted to die!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
