I was reading one of the threads, and there was a bunch of comments about Hair loss. :)

I have hypothyroidism and my hair is real thin from that. I have not been banded yet. So does anyone know something I can do starting now that will help me keep the hair I have now, before surgery.:paranoid

I started taking hair and nail Vitamins a month before getting banded. They didn't help since I lost a lot of hair anyway. However, it was very temporary, and I didn't notice that my actual head of hair got any thinner. It's all back to normal now.

The normal advice on the board is to keep your Protein levels up (60-100g a day, depending on your weight) & to supplement your Biotin (a B vitamin). Some swear that this has helped / turned the tide. Others say it hasn't helped at all & they're still losing hair.

I'm trying it anyway, hoping it will help! :)

Just got color yesterday and asked my hair dresser about the Biotin. I am preband and she suggested starting it now b/c according to her, it can take up to 6 mos to build up in your system. Anyone know if this is true or if it's a benefit to start taking it now? :)

I used to take Biotin for my nails. It does take a while to show up in your fingernails just because they grow so slowly. It would take about 6 months to see the positive changes. I don't believe the same (6mos) would be needed for hair since it is the follicle you are trying to strengthen and not the actual hair. Just my opinon, I was raised in a salon, not trained in one. Lots of luck! If you find something that works, PLEASE let me know...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
