Not Feeling Full After Second Adjustment

Recommended Posts

I've had Two adjustments so far and though I realize now that I really need to work on my chewing..I still feel hunger and I can still pack the food away as I was able to before. Is it because I've only had 2 adjustments and once I have more at that point, will I feel those full feelings that I long for? Or am I not grasping what the Lap Band system really is and I'm sabotaging my own success? Prior to surgery I was able to eat a lot! However, I was able to stop once I felt full. Years of over eating caused my stomach to stretch so much it would take large amounts of food to fill it. Which I am sure a lot of you experienced. I oped for the lap band because I was tired of feeling hungry and over eating...and very tired of being over weight. Any answers are appreciated.

Thank you all

It does take most people more than a couple fills before they have adequate Fluid in their band. However, a couple things you need to realize:

-The band is not supposed to make you feel full

-The band is not supposed to restrict how much food you can eat

The only thing the band is supposed to help you feel satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. Satisfied meaning no longer physically hungry. Do not expect the feeling of stuffed full you had before you were banded and don't expect the band to restrict how much you can eat. This is a mistake many people make and end up with bands too tight, and slips, because of it.

There's a common saying with bandsters "just because you can eat something, doesn't mean you should". This is why we need to monitor our portions, keeping them to a cup or less per meal, and make healthy food choices.

The band is a great tool when used correctly with realistic expectations. Hang in there, you'll get the hang of it too :)

Best wishes.

Are you drinking enough fluids? I tend to feel "hungry" between meals. A couple sips of Water helps that tho. For me it's mental hunger and boredom

I am glad for the advice too - I am currently at 3.5 ccs and still get hungry quite often and have had 4 fills. I have felt very discouraged in the last month because my weight has stayed the same. I have gotten better in the last few weeks about being sure to keep to a cup of food and also exercising regularly so my spirits are better and I know the weight loss will come. It's good to know that I'm going through "normal" stuff...

I haven't lost weight in about a month. I used to stress on it but I figure as long as its not going up I'm good. I am losing inches tho.

I love running its a big stress reliever. I just wish my runnin partner was a little more motivated. :)

Ewww..this scares me. I have failed so much my only fear is that I won't even be able to lose weight w/the lap band and it would be another failed attempt at weight loss.

This forum is awesome. There are so many supportive people on here. It also helps if you know people who have had some sort of WLS. They are the best support.

Don't get me wrong I have days where I snack on horrible foods but no one is perfect. I just get back on track. And look at old pics. Lol never want to be "fluffy" again

After my first 3 fills I started getting worried that something was wrong. I could still eat whatever I wanted. I stopped at a cup, but i was never satisfied. I felt hungry all of the time. Then i had the magic fill...for me it was #4. Suddenly I was satisfied with about 1/2 cup of food and i would not think of food for hours. It's amazing the difference one fill makes. Hang in there. Practice measuring and chewing and eating what you're supposed to. Your magic fill will come too. It's been 3 weeks and after being at the same weight for 2 months, I've lost 10 more pounds. Keep the faith...it will come. Good Luck!!!

I'm wondering if you are eating enough Protein. If you eat it first it should start filing you up. What about excercise? That can get things moving as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
