Can Anyone Handle Steak?

Recommended Posts

I've been scared to try regular steak, but I have had bison steak. It is much healthier and it was very tender. I did take very small bites and didn't have a problem.

Yes I can do a filet mignon medium rare. Outback, Shwans, Texas Roadhouse...that I've tried plus in grocery stores. I also use tenderizer for grilled at home.

I can eat any meat as long as it was prepared correctly and not overcooked. chicken is actually the hardest to go down for me.

I've had steak several times...but I also have TMJ problems. Having to make the effort to chew, chew, chew, was too much for me...so I will also stay with chicken, fish, and occasional sliced pork.

What works well for me is to have Boar's Head Londonport roast beef in my salad or rolled up with romaine...not steak per say, but an acceptable substitute for me.

My band is very loose or so I thought. I had some beautifully tender, rare fillet and got stuck so badly that I ended up going to emergency and having most of the Fluid withdrawn. That was a couple of months ago and even though I have been refilled almost to the same level I am struggling to find an ideal level of restriction. So bottom line for me is even though I thought I could I couldn't and that it was not worth it. Now if the steak has been in the slow cooker all day then that is fine.

i dont have prob with it..but ive only tried ribeye, i eat it usually twice a week. Nutrtionist just told me at my last visit tho to drop it down to once a week or not at all, cuz red meat isnt considered a lean Protein, even if its a reallly lean cut...but she also told me i need another fill so maybe once i get my next fill i wont be able to eat it..not sure

Tiny bites? Rare? Or should I not even try?

funny i read this as i had (steak) last night.

all 3 oz worth. hub cut into very tiny tiny pieces.

*mind you i am a so well done its almost leather* type steak eater but i dredge it in ketchup (to help with the moist factor).

its yummy and high in Protein. (though i mainly stick with chicken breast)

I have eaten steak several times since being banded. I eat mine medium rare and have had no trouble. I have had 2 fills and now have 5Ccs in my 10CC band. I have been steady at my 2 lbs a week weight loss, so I don' t see any problems. I do know many bandsters who have problems with steak though.

I love filet mignon! I'm getting banded a week from today, and I've been concerned about this too. I hope I'm one of those people that can handle it with tiny bites.

Steak or pork...marinated sliced thin in fajita ...BIG NO TO ROAST BEEF... chicken is iffy...and I can no longer eat fresh fish...

Just tried to eat a few bites of a smoked turkey leg.......the worst "stuck" I have had in 9 months or since I was banded. Still feeling crappy..drinking coffee trying to get my gut to settle down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
