Can Anyone Handle Steak?

Recommended Posts

Tiny bites? Rare? Or should I not even try?

I can. very tender. small bites. In fact, I had filet mignon the other night, a simple 4 oz steak grilled with some veggies. Was good! I think that a tougher cut might have been a problem. I just know to cut the pieces really small.

Good luck!

Hmmm steak is one of my fav foods. I'm hoping I can have a few bites here and there. I like it almost rare. I hope if I take out the center of filet and cut off the crust.

I did a few days ago, but it was real tender. I was scared before to try it!

I have not had a problem so far. I make sure though it's a tender cut like filet, ribeye, or flank steak and that it's cooked med rare.

No problems what so ever. I just am not a red meat fan. Not due to moral/ethical issues; we just didn't eat it growing up (too expensive).

Granted I don't have the restriction yet that I want (3.5 ccs in my band) but I can still eat steak. As others have said I have to cut it really small and I have realized that it is pretty heavy meaning I can't even eat a whole cup of it but I have had it a couple of times since being banded. It's kinda nice that I can make it last 3 meals ;).

Steak seems to be the only thing I cannot tolerate. I tried to eat a tiny bite one time and I felt like it just sat there stuck. I didn't get sick but I was very uncomfortable all night. So I won't ever go there again!!!

No prob with small bites of steak or lamb, but it is hit or miss with ground beef. Go figure.

I have 6cc's on my band and I can eat everything I want (not that I do)...but I'm actually starting to worry...

Steak is my weakness but I have it once in a while, way too many calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
