lookinfwd 2 Posted September 16, 2012 Im sure if this is normal. But I'm been having a hard time with the 1st week liquid diet. Not able to drink much. Im ok until today I went to the park and got really dizzy and weak. Well long story short I've lost 8lbs and it seems too much for me. Is this the norm for 1st week post op???? PattyGirl66 1,243 Posted September 16, 2012 Yes, its normal and the reason is your body is still healing and it will heal up to 6 weeks. However, if you do not get your liquids in you can dehydrate yourself, and you don't want to do that! Get yourself some gatorade and keep yourself hydrated with plenty of Water. The gatorade will replenish any loss of electrolites and give you adequate potassium. You need to get in as much Water as you can and remember not to gulp, go slowly but keep drinking all day. This is going to heal you much faster than what you think. You need to make sure you get that Protein too, that is very important. I don't know if you are doing Protein yet but when you are able to get it in any way you can. Don't concentrate so much on the weight loss, but on healing. Everybody loses or even gains weight during this time. So it is important to focus on healing. I lost 22 lbs on the 2 week liquid diet. Any loss is a good one and as my dr told me... You learn to live without food and you shrink your liver for a successful surgery Good luck

(if you gain, your gonna get upset but its most likely from fluid). congrats on your surgery
