How Much Did U Lose First Week??

Recommended Posts

Im sure if this is normal. But I'm been having a hard time with the 1st week liquid diet. Not able to drink much. Im ok until today I went to the park and got really dizzy and weak. Well long story short I've lost 8lbs and it seems too much for me. Is this the norm for 1st week post op????

Yes, its normal and the reason is your body is still healing and it will heal up to 6 weeks. However, if you do not get your liquids in you can dehydrate yourself, and you don't want to do that! Get yourself some gatorade and keep yourself hydrated with plenty of Water. The gatorade will replenish any loss of electrolites and give you adequate potassium. You need to get in as much Water as you can and remember not to gulp, go slowly but keep drinking all day. This is going to heal you much faster than what you think. You need to make sure you get that Protein too, that is very important. I don't know if you are doing Protein yet but when you are able to get it in any way you can.

Don't concentrate so much on the weight loss, but on healing. Everybody loses or even gains weight during this time. So it is important to focus on healing.

Best of luck!

On my 8 day post op I had already lost 14 pounds. I was dizzy a day or so but made sure to drink plenty of fluids.

I lost 22 lbs on the 2 week liquid diet. Any loss is a good one and as my dr told me... You learn to live without food and you shrink your liver for a successful surgery

Good luck

agree 100% w/patty

stay off the scales as it goes up and down all day long. (if you gain, your gonna get upset but its most likely from fluid).

congrats on your surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
